Report: Sam Bradford likely to request a trade

Following the Philadelphia Eagles decision to trade up to the No. 2 overall spot in the upcoming draft, incumbent starting quarterback Sam Bradford was reportedly pretty upset over the trade.

After all, it’s readily apparent that the bounty Philadelphia paid to move up to that pick was sent to the Cleveland Browns in order to draft a quarterback.

Fresh off signing a two-year, $35 million deal with Philadelphia in February, bypassing the ability to hit a watered-down free agent market, Bradford may now be prepared to request a trade from the Eagles.

Bleacher Report’s Jason Cole is reporting that Bradford is likely to demand Philadelphia move him:

“I’ve talked to a source who said it’s likely that Bradford is going to ask for a trade at some point in time, or some way to get out of Philadelphia so that he can move on with his career somewhere else with a team that is going to be invested in him long-term,” Cole reported. “That’s the kind of solution that Bradford is looking at at this point in time.”
This makes perfect sense for Bradford himself. He signed that two-year deal with the expectation that he would be guaranteed to be the team’s starting quarterback for the next few seasons. And even after the Eagles gave Chase Daniel a three-year, $21 million contract, that remained the case.
Of course, this all changed on Wednesday when Philadelphia sent five valuable picks to the Browns for the second overall selection.

Immediately after said trade, reports surfaced that the Eagles were not looking to move Bradford. Instead, the team seems intent on letting whoever it drafts in the first round sit for a year or two. While that makes some sense for the team, it gives Bradford very little confidence that the Eagles are committed to him over the long term.
The issue with any potential deal, as Cole notes, Bradford has already been paid $11 million from the Eagles as part of the deal he signed in February. Including that $11 million signing bonus, the former No. 1 pick is due to count $35 million against the cap over the next two seasons.

Among the teams that could potentially be interested in Bradford are the San Francisco 49ers. Though, the quarterback has previously indicated that he didn’t give the idea of joining former Eagles head coach Chip Kelly in San Francisco any real thought.

With the 49ers also $50-plus million under the cap, they have the cash to take on Bradford’s contract. The primary issue here is the presence of Colin Kaepernick’s contract and the lack of any trade movementsurrounding him. San Francisco won’t come close to considering a move for Bradford without dealing Kaepernick first.
The Denver Broncos and New York Jets are also potentially in the market for a starting quarterback, although Denver has turned its focus to Brian Hoyer after acquiring Mark Sanchez earlier in the offseason.

Meanwhile, the Jets would be wise to come close to meeting Ryan Fitzpatrick’s asking price rather than make a move for Bradford. After all, Fitzpatrick has a built-in relationship with the team and would come cheaper.

It makes sense that Bradford would be upset. Who wouldn’t be? In no way does this mean that there’s a logical way for Philadelphia to meet his trade demands.

[h=1]So, what if Sam Bradford just never shows up?[/h]Eagles NFL Philadelphia Sam Bradford

A couple days before the start of the 2016 NFL Draft, knowing the Eagles were primed to select a franchise quarterback with the No. 2 overall pick, Sam Bradford's agent Tom Condon informed the Eagles that Bradford would not be showing up for team activities until he absolutely had to in June, per Sal Paolantonio of ESPN:

Condon said he has informed the team that Bradford will not show up at the Eagles practice facility until June 7, the first day of mandatory mini-camp. He said that Bradford feels it will be difficult for him to return to the Eagles as a lame duck.
On Thursday, appearing on Quick Slants on Comcast SportsNet, Reuben Frank of CSN Philly opined that Bradford might just retire. Transcript via PhillyInfluencer.com:
Reuben Frank: I think he’s gonna retire, honestly. The guy’s made what, what did we say, $95-$100 million…
Derrick Gunn: Yup, with the $122 million the Eagles are giving him.
Frank: You know, whatever. Easy come, easy go. I think he’s gonna retire. I think he’s had enough. I don’t think he wants to be here. Honestly, I don’t think anybody else wants him. Maybe you get a 3 or 4, but I doubt it. I think it’s done. I think it’s over with. I think Chase Daniel starts your season, plays five or six games, whatever Doug Pederson played, I think it’s seven. And then Carson Wentz comes in and he’s your quarterback for the next 10 years. And this time next year, we’re sitting here saying, “Sam who?”
Personally, I don't think that's a crazy scenario at all, and it's one I've considered myself. Keep in mind that Bradford nearly retired after his second ACL tear not that long ago.
Around two years later, at the first hint of any legitimate competition for the first time in a wholly ineffective six-year career, Bradford demanded to be traded. Who exactly would give up anything of value and ask a player who so actively sought to avoid competition to lead their team? In my view, nobody. In other words, it's probably Philly, or retirement.
In a retirement scenario, Bradford would have to pay back the $5.5 million he already received in signing bonuses, and he would of course never see the other $5.5 million he's set to receive by September 1, or his base salary.
In short, it would almost be as if the Eagles never signed him in the first place. The only difference is that instead of losing him for nothing in free agency, they would control his rights and could still trade him if Bradford decided he wanted to play after all, and some team out there became desperate for a quarterback.
The Eagles would then likely start Daniel, who would be merely keeping the seat warm for Wentz, as Frank suggested. Oh, and they'd have a new-found treasure trove of salary cap resources to lock up players who are actually interested in, you know, competing. That salary cap space would be far more valuable than a third or fourth round pick.
Let the game of chicken commence.

Who does he think he is? smh

Guy has made a fortune through his career and most of the time has been injured. Even when he's played he's been awful.

Justin Cruise is right.

For doing as little he has done, he has been handsomely rewarded. Last #1 pick before rookie wage scale, hurt all the time, unreliable and even when on the field doesn't look like he belongs. If I never read anything at all and didn't listen to the Cherokee Indian bitch, I would assume Brafdord was brought in as a #2

What's crazy is Bradford has made over 100 million dollars in NFL contracts yet has not done jack shit in 5 years

I think Peyton had contracts total a little over 200 million his entire career of 18 years. Not counting endorsements or any of that; just straight NFL contract.

I had to look it up. Manning made 248 million just from NFL contracts which includes bonuses for this and that which he of course hit. Bradford almost half of that and I highly doubt he hit any kind of bonus
