Hot off the presses, Josh Norman has agreed to a 5 year $75M deal with the Redskins.

Josh Norman's brief voyage into free-agency is over.

Just two days after the Carolina Panthers rescinded their non-exclusive franchise tag on the All-Pro cornerback, Norman signed a five-year, $75 million deal with the Washington Redskins on Friday, a source informed of the situation told NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport. The contract, which makes him the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL, includes $50 million in guarantees.

Norman's new contract ends a brief but profitable courtship for the 28 year old, who became a free agent Wednesday, visited the Redskins on Friday -- flying to D.C. aboard the team's private jet -- and signed a deal soon after. Norman was contacted by roughly 10 teams within hours of the Panthers cutting him free, but Washington wouldn't let him leave the building.

In addition to the Redskins, the New Orleans Saints also made a push Friday to reach an agreement with Norman, sources informed of the situation told Rapoport.
With the draft kicking off next week, teams interested in Norman were expected to move swiftly. Norman also hoped to have a pact in place before the first round launched next Thursday.

Norman would have been one of the hottest commodities at the start of free agency, but his late entry into the open market ultimately didn't hurt his value.
It's by far the biggest splash of the Scot McCloughan era in Washington. The second-year Redskins general manager has operated conservatively in free agency, looking for reliable veteran help at a decent price. The Norman deal tosses that strategy into the blender.

The Redskins sat just $11,682,340 under the cap before inking Norman, per OvertheCap.com, but McCloughan will find a way to work the books. Besides, if Norman plays the way he did last year, the guaranteed money will be worth it.

Norman immediately turns the cornerback position into a strength for last year's NFC East champions. Bashaud Breeland was highly productive in 2015 and will make for a fascinating starting duo with Norman. Will Blackmon, Quinton Dunbar and Greg Toler all add depth. Chris Culliver, coming off ACL surgery, is a candidate to hit the bricks. The team still could use help at safety, but coach Jay Gruden mentioned in March that Blackmon and fellow cornerback Deshazor Everett could see snaps at the position. Adding a player of Norman's abilities gives the Redskins incredible flexibility.

The signing also tweaks Washington's plans for the draft. Seen as a team that could look for corner help -- names like Eli Apple, Mackensie Alexander and Kendall Fuller have been thrown around -- the Redskins now have the position sealed up.

The big question for Washington is whether Norman can recapture last year's magic outside of Carolina. As one of the leaders of a rough-and-tumble Panthers defense, Norman exploded onto the scene last autumn, compiling four interceptions and 19 passes defensed. He also allowed a 60.9 passer rating in coverage, the 15th-lowest among qualifying cornerbacks in 2015. His play tailed off for spurts down the stretch, but his overall body of work was superb.

Norman will be tested out of the gate with games against Pittsburgh's Antonio Brown, Dallas' Dez Bryant and -- that's right -- New York's Odell Beckham over the first three weeks of the season.
It's a ton of cash to spend on a player entering his age-29 season, but Norman has the talent to make every penny worth it if he matches last season's heroics.

why do you doubt that?...that's from your stance on the couch.

He don't care that he has the MVP of the league on his team? #%() He's about to find out what adversity is all about joining the skins'

SPARTANBURG- In the two days since the fight between Panthers quarterback Cam Newton and cornerback Josh Norman became the dominant storyline of training camp at Wofford, Panthers coach Ron Rivera and several players had spoken about the fracas, including Newton.

But the always loquacious and candid Norman had not been heard from – until Wednesday, when the fourth-year player from Greenwood, S.C., met with the media for 15 minutes.

Norman shared some interesting takes on several topics related to the fight and its aftermath:

On his relationship with Newton: We’re teammates. We’re brothers. We watched a movie (”Mission: Impossible,” Tuesday during a team event). We hung out. I don’t know what else you want me to say about it other than he’s our quarterback.

On how he views Newton: He’s the franchise quarterback of the Carolina Panthers and I’m glad to be on his team. He’s one of the strong captains, the leaders, and we follow behind that. With him at the helm, this team can do a lot of special things.

On their relationship on the practice field: We compete hard in practice. He throws dimes and I try to deflect ‘em, and take ‘em to the house if I can. It’s only making me better and it’s only making him better.

On the idea that Norman’s stiff-arm triggered the fight: I don’t know, I was running the ball. I was trying to score. He’s fun to play with. He comes and tries to tackle us every time. I saw him and I was just toying around. That’s Cam. He’s going to be that guy to go and chase the ball.

On the attention the incident received: It was crazy. I knew it was going to be a little bit of uproar from it but not this much, man. This is just taking on a whole other form.

On the idea he practices with too much passion: I kind of mellowed myself down in practice, but sometimes the offense gets going and things start to rumble in me.

On his mentality on the field: If you strike first, I strike back. And I’m going to come back heavy and I’m going to come back strong. However you want to play it, however you want to get down and dirty, we’re going to get there.

On how long it took to get back on good terms with Newton: When I got in the locker room. ... Came up, gave him some dap and like, ‘Look bro, if we’ve got to do this every day, we’re going to do it every day. But just know this, we’re going to compete and we’re going to get the best out of each other.’

On the possibility of a fight next week during practices with Dolphins: I do know this, we’re not taking any punches from anybody. We’re going to maintain ourselves. We’re going to play disciplined, sound football. And hey, if they don’t like it, it is what it is.

Too much money for a 28 year old with only one superstar season under his belt; this year should be a good one though. HTTR!

Yeah exactly my stance from the couch with the tv on saw him and cam newton scrapping each other in training camp. Imo they are two different personalities that don't mix well. It's Cam newtons team now. Josh norman made a good business decision. No doubt.

The Redskins are the next generation Browns and Raiders. 52 million guaranteed. LOL. Hard to top the stupidity of the RG 3 trade but leave it to Dan Snyder to try.

1. Albert Haynesworth
2. RG the 48th version of what is obvious to anyone that has thrown a football
2. Signing a dumbass corner to this deal.

Dumbass corner I dno about that. They over pay for everyone. How about pierre garcon 42 million?

Browns are using the money ball approach now. A baseball guy making decisions. Browns will turn it around soon. Already a good sign when you are trading back

pretty bold statement considering they were 1 win away last year and he played better than mostly every other QB in the NFL.

Cam is a proven WINNER. Period.

Proven winner? That is laughable at best. They overachieved last year which coincided with one of the easiest schedules in the league as they got to play their own division naturally & arguably the worst division in the AFC South last year. So they padded their resume big time.
