Monday night, Tigers outfielder Tyler Collins gave the Comerica Park crowd the finger after he was booed for misplaying a ball in the outfield. Here's the incident, in case you missed it:

Collins apologized after the game, saying "I'm absolutely embarrassed that happened and I'm very sorry to everybody in Detroit." MLB decided not to suspended him or the obscene gesture.
Unfortunately for Collins, the apology was not enough to keep him in the big leagues. On Wednesday the Tigers announced Collins has been demoted to Triple-A to clear a roster spot for Francisco Rodriguez, who was activated off the family emergency list.
Collins, 25, is 2-for-20 (.100) on the season, so the demotion is not solely the result of the middle finger incident. I can't imagine it helped his case, however. Collins is a career .250/.295/.390 (89 OPS+) hitter in 88 big league games.
For now the Tigers have only three outfielders on their roster: Justin Upton, Anthony Gose, and J.D. Martinez. Utility man Mike Aviles can also play the outfield. Cameron Maybin is currently working his way back from a broke wrist.
