I agree not the same, the NBA and NFL both suck to watch and have taken a step back from years ago, baseball is ok but slow so you almost have to be multi tasking to help pass the time, NHL is decent and entertaining but is still better to watch live in my opinion

Not even close. They all suck. Most of the players are nothing but people with inflated ego's especially the NBA. If it weren't for the NBA most of them thugs would be in prison or be pimping their ho's.

Not even close here either.

I don't watch baseball anymore, and a portion of the Football I watch is only because I have dough on it.

i go back even farther. 70's NFL, NBA and MLB were the best.. Mostly NFL and MLB

I use to tell my buddies back in the 90's , that I'd much rather watch a game from the 70's than the current games. A few years later, ESPN Classic showed up..

I lose more and more interest each year. More time in the woods and away from the masses seems the way to go...

When I was younger (in the 80's and 90's) I read the sports page cover to cover. I didn't follow NHL that much (or soccer or other minor sports). Mid-90's I started to dislike the way the NFL changed the FA rules and got less interested. I now loosely follow pro football...I loosely follow MLB...and really only like college sports (especially CFB).

When I was a teen in the late 70's, early 80's I could name every starter on the Bears. And most of the backups.
After FA every athlete got greedy, now it sucks.
Still watch NFL, but it isn't the same.

every post above "says it all". in my opinion, the nba of today is a total farce compared to the nba of the 1970's with the celtics, knicks, lakers etc. you couldnt pay me to watch an nba game but watching the kids of cbb play is still enjoyable. i am a baseball freak so my opinion is totally biased and i still enjoy all football but only bet cfb.

What makes the experience so much more enjoyable for me, is technology.

It's hard to beat high-def TV, with these huge screens. It's almost more enjoyable to sit at home and watch games in your living room.

You go back and watch an NBA game from the 70's and 80's and the picture/graphics suck.

we didn't know any better.. the thing i couldn't believe about the nba in the 70's was the playoff games were shown on tape delay.

the julius erving / bill walton finals was tape delayed..

part of it too is as we age, we have more priorities and responsibilities than we had "back in the day".

NBA definitely was better before everyone became best friends and no defense allowed now.

Political Correctness has hurt sports too. Bear Bryant once said, " if he is black he is not a qb" Nowadays you would be blackballed from coaching. No one made a fuss of it back then even though that was before my time.

I think some of you might just have fonder memories. Like another poster pointed out, watch some ESPN classic and you'll see even watching games from the 90's, they boring and are slower, and the picture is horrible. Now everyone has a 60 inch HD flat screen with 100's of channels to watch. Before you had to wait for the paper or the ESPN ticker to go by. Now we can get live scores very easily on the net, plus we can watch any game we want to bet. IMO there is no better time than the present for watching sports on TV. NHL and NFL are so much better on TV than they used to be.

And MLB is damned if they do and damned if they don't. Everyone likes to complain about all the changes in the NFL, but the same people also complain about the MLB for not changing with the times.

I agree with what most posters have said in this thread, i get the crappy pic thing against what we have now to watch sports on, but that being said, imo too much of a good thing is not good either and imo sports are overkill on tv these days 7 days a week.but back in the day going to see live sports in person was 100 % better than today sports imo too.

Astute post

I enjoy watching sports today more than at any time in my 50 years of spectating.

Hell, go back to just the mid 90s and it is startling how rudimentary the presentation is in comparison to 2016.

Anyone remember trying to watch a hockey game on your 25" non-HiDef television? Where's the puck? Or a quick couple passes down the ice and the single camera coverage cannot keep up
