Here’s the breakdown of picks by FBS conference:

SEC: 51
Big Ten: 47
Pac-12: 32
ACC: 26
Big 12: 26
AAC: 10
Conference USA: 10
Mountain West: 9
Independents: 8
MAC: 6
Sun Belt: 3

There were also 21 from FCS, 2 from Division II, one from Canada and one from Germany.

It was the first time since 2006 that the SEC didn’t have a top 5 pick. Is the gap closing? Fox Sports’ Stewart Mandel noted that the SEC had 63 picks to the Big Ten’s 20 in 2013. This year, they were almost even.

ZERO players from Tennessee.

Of the 107 players who left school with eligibility remaining, 30 went undrafted.

Per Phil Savage, only 47 of the 96 underclassmen (no degree) were picked in the first four rounds. Every player’s situation is different, but you want them making the best situation. Remember, the NBA recently changed its rule to push back the withdrawal date, giving players more accurate information on their stock.

Every Power 5 team has produced at least one 1st rounder since 1995, except for Indiana and Iowa State, according to ESPN’s Chris Fallica.

Alabama has produced at least 3 picks in the first 2 rounds for 7 straight years (since 2009).

This year, that included Ryan Kelly, Reggie Ragland, Derrick Henry, A’Shawn Robison, Jarran Reed and Cyrus Jones.

Ohio State had a player drafted from every position group.

They didn’t break the first-round or single-draft total records, but they did have player drafted at QB, RB, WR, TE, OL, DL, LB, DB. The 10 Buckeyes drafted through three rounds did set an common-era draft record.

Texas A&M had an offensive tackle taken in the first round for the fourth straight year.
Germain Ifedi joins Luke Joeckel, Jake Matthews and Cedric Ogbuehi from the past four years. It's also six straight years with a first-round pick for the Aggies.

Recruiting is an inexact science, but you need talent to win, and recruiting rankings are generally good predictors of future success, for the most part. The NFL Draft can also be a crapshoot, but how has it shaped up so far?

Of the 98 picks through the first three rounds, here’s a breakdown, based on their 247Sports' composite rating out of high school:

5 stars: 21
4 stars: 37
3 stars: 28
2 stars: 4
Unranked: 8

So nearly 60 percent of these picks were 4- or 5 stars. A year ago, it was 37 percent. And remember, there are far fewer 4/5 star players than 3 and below.
Here’s this year’s round-by-round breakdown:

First round
5 stars: 5
4 stars: 17
3 stars: 4
2 stars: 2
Unranked: 3

Second round
5 stars: 9
4 stars: 8
3 stars: 13
2 stars: 1
Unranked: 1

Third round
5 stars: 7
4 stars: 12
3 stars: 11
2 stars: 1
Unranked: 4

Only one college coach has had a player selected in the Top-15 in four of the past
five drafts. It's not Saban, Meyer, Miles or Stoops. It's actually Dana Holgorsen
of West Virginia.

Kind of surprise when I read this.

So did Meyer win the NC at Ohio State w/ Tressel's players? Or at Florida w/ Zook's players? Whoever the coach is at the time they are HIS players.

When Alabama center Ryan Kelly went No. 18 to the Colts, he became Bama's fifth
offensive lineman to go in the first round since 2009. Before St. Nick arrived, the
Tide had ONE first round O-lineman in the previous 27 years. Alabama has a left
tackle that is projected to be a first round pick next year.
