Baylor's baseball (Jimmy Landes) and basketball (Rico Gathers) teams produced two NFL
draft picks...one more than Texas' football program did. The Longhorns had only six
players drafted in the last three years highlighting the lack of recruiting by Mack Brown
and his staff. I'm not making excuses for Charlie Strong, but lack of quality players may
be why he's had two losing seasons.

By the time most of the Longhorns' freshman arrive this summer, about 80 percent of the
roster will have been recruited by Strong and his staff since he arrived in January, 2014.

Time to "Cowboy Up" Charlie or you will be riding out of town and soon....................

Charlie Strong was 7-6 and 7-6 his first two seasons at Louisville. He followed that up
with 11-2 and 12-1 seasons before moving to Texas.

Now, he needs to repeat that success in Austin, Texas.

Guess I owe Mack Brown an apology after saying he didn't recruit well the years
before he was given the door. Ole Mack actually had highly ranked recruiting
classes the four years before Strong took over. Sorry Mack!

Here are the recruiting composite rankings for Mack and Charlie.

2010 - #2
2011 - #4
2012 - #2
2013 - #17
-- - - - - - - - - - -
2014 - #16
2015 - #10
2016 - #11
2017 - Charlie is currently ranked #22.

*Either Mack's recruits were the wrong type players for Strong's program or
he just didn't coach them up. Don't know..............

LOL!!! Mack recruited well but he never coached his players up. So they fizzled out. They'll be playing a freshman QB this fall. Problem is, if the OL cant protect him, he'll be running for his life. No stellar RB's, and the receivers are gonna have to step up big time.

it's May so I doubt many people, including Texas fans, are lingering on the board to comment. i havent been to the cfb forum in a couple of months

Recruiting rankings are pretty but wont always equate to wins
A number of Mack Brown recruits left or were asked to leave the program when Charlie was hired
Not sure Buechele will start the season but he'll get playing time
Texas has some good RBs. Not as good the past few years IMO but those guys couldnt stay healthy either.
Texas is going to have to throw a lot of quick routes to help out the OL. Still not convinced they can pass protect well.
WR will be interesting this year. It's been a weak spot but something they've tried to recruit for with this new system.
They have no good PK. No idea what Charlie will do here. He's been using all his scholarships to fill holes everywhere else and is hoping walk-ons can kick. Not the right strategy but I understand it I suppose. It hurt last year against Cal....

Texas doesnt have a full-time AD and wont until next year. That bodes well for Charlie because the interim guy wont do the firing I wouldnt think, unless the boosters really really want him gone or he posts a losing record.

another fun season on the 40 acres...
