Every time you go into these places and order something they ask you if you'd like to donate $1 to feeding the homeless or cancer research, I say no thank you and then ask how much is it to super size my fries. Oh, a dollar fifty? I'll take it!

I feel like an azzhole enough, I don't need their help. Don't make me come into your joint and deny the needy $1 before I eat.

The pet stores do the same thing, ask for donation to help the homeless and abused animals. I already donate a lot of cash and time in pet rescue (that's my form of tithing), and I don't feel the obligation to donate more because I get a weird stare from a random cashier...

Every place does that. It's a scam. A way for them to pocket an extra dollar. Like a 19 year fast food worker cares about anything other than getting high/ drunk/ sex

I took car in for alignment and they even pulled that one there too. I went to YMCA and they pulled it again.

Not surprised with the YMCA because they're connected to the United Way, but I hear ya. It's give, give, give these days, as if we aren't slaves enough already...

I have no problem saying no. I say no in a way that makes them feel like an asshole for asking me

I tell them those organizations are scams. Then I really am the asshole. Destiny fulfilled.

Not exactly. They take all those donations from their customers and make the donation in their name; creating a huge tax deduction for the donation.

Oh and it shows as additional revenue in the financial report.

And Im a "not today" guy

There are good and bad ways to do it...

The dollar store does it shady and is probably a scam... "would you like to purchase a *insert item here* for *insert charity here* for those in need. Its only a dollar". Always looked shady as shit to me.

But on the other hand, the best I have seen (tactics and trustworthiness) when you make a purchase at The Franklin Institute gift shop, they ask if you would like to round up to the nearest dollar and it shows a as "donation" on the receipt.

so when (or if) we donate a dollar and then at the end of the month, that business cuts a big check for 50k, is that company getting the "tax credit" for the write offs? because not all of the time is the $1 donation put on the receipt.
