Brett Perriman, who spent 10 seasons in the NFL, has been hospitalized after collapsing Tuesday night.

The 50-year-old Perriman, who is the father of Baltimore Ravens receiver Breshad Perriman, had extremely high blood pressure and was placed on life support, according to Miami radio station WINZ.

Perriman remained on life support Wednesday, according to WINZ host Andy Slater, but showed signs of improvement.

Perriman was standout receiver at the University of Miami, catching 62 passes for 1,073 yards and six touchdowns over his four-year career while also serving as the team's primary return man. Hip-hop star Luther Campbell, a longtime Miami supporter and friend of Perriman, tweeted Tuesday night Perriman was "fighting for his life."

Perriman was a second-round draft pick of the New Orleans Saints in 1988, but is best known for his six seasons with the Detroit Lions. Perriman had a career-high 108 receptions for 1,488 yards in 1995. Herman Moore set an NFL record with 123 receptions that season and the two became the first receiving tandem in NFL history to have more than 100 catches in the same season.

Perriman is third on Detroit's all-time list with 428 receptions for 5,244 yards, finishing his career with 525 catches for 6,589 yards and 30 scores. Perriman was also the first player in NFL history to record a pair of two-point conversions in the same game, doing so in a 38-30 loss to the Green Bay Packers.

Perriman finished his career in 1997 with the Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins.
