You take a 10mil pay cut to go to the Spurs and you still have no title to show for it.
He went this far for the Hornets and Pacers in the past. 10 million less in his bank account and still no championship.

Always take the money

Athletes get killed in taxes since they make salary. So it is really like 5.

Probably just paid him the rest under the table like they do with Duncan.

Made 87M in his career before this year. Doubt he is hurting.

Not like he doesn't have a few years left as a productive roleplayer either. He can probably hang on until he is 40 and be a solid veteran.

The David West types can hang on and suck and nobody really cares too. Whereas like if you are a more elite player, it just looks lame being the 10th man. Underrated dynamic.

Do you think teams do that?
How can that be hid unless taxes aren't being paid ?

Nah, not really. Was half kidding. Nobody shows up at Duncan's house with a briefcase full of unmarked 100's I don't think.

Obviously he can get courtside tickets to any game, luxury boxes for friends and family whenever he wants, etc. If the owner has outside businesses or maybe a timeshare, he can use that. Just stuff like that.

There is an exception though. Andrei Kirilenko was coming off a pretty good year with the TWolves in 2012-2013 and then just signed with Brooklyn for close to the league minimum the next year. He spent the whole year hurt and sucked but it was widely believed that Prokorhov paid him under the table or perhaps greased his palms somehow. Who would even know? That is the type of situation that a briefcase full of cash exchanged on a yacht off the coast of Russia was probably a reality.

would 5mil more have changed his life any? He probably has no regrets. 20 years from now (if he isnt broke) would probably have regreted not chasing the title and settling for the money.
