In a tragic start to Preakness day, multiple horses have died after racing at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore.

Homeboykris had rallied to win the day's first race by a half-length on a rainy Saturday. After having his picture taken in the winner's circle, he collapsed and died on his walk back to the barn. Track officials believe the 9-year-old gelding suffered cardiovascular collapse.

Pramedya was euthanized on the track after breaking her left front leg during the fourth race of the day. Jockey Daniel Centeno also suffered a broken clavicle while riding Pramedya.

She was owned by Lael Stables, which also owned Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro, who broke his leg during the 2006 Preakness Stakes, the injury ultimately leading to the horse's death eight months later.

Homeboykris won the Champagne Stakes in 2009 and a year later finished 16th in the Kentucky Derby with former New York Yankees manager Joe Torre as a co-owner. He had just won his 14th race in 63 career starts and fourth in six races.

The horse will be taken to New Bolton Center in Pennsylvania for an autopsy.

Later Saturday, Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist will take on 10 rivals in the Preakness Stakes.

I attend the local fair every year to catch some horse racing.

Many years ago a horse broke his front leg, was running down the stretch with his leg flopping round without an outrider in sight. One of the sickest things I've ever witnessed at the track, been going for over 30+ years.

I've seen a lot of racing accidents, never get used to it. Sickening feeling every time.

the pramedya incident was bad..they only had one screen so they blocked the view from.infield..grandstand was able to see the situation unfold. Horse was in serious distress..not a good scene. Uncle lino actually got banned off after the preakness. Heard it wasn't an injury but more exaustion and precautionary
