ARLINGTON -- Right fielder Nomar Mazara's solo home run in the second inning of the Rangers' 15-9 win over the Angels on Wednesday afternoon at Globe Life Park went a projected 491 feet and left his bat at 108 mph, according to Statcast™, making it the longest home run in the Major Leagues this season.
Marlins right fielder Giancarlo Stanton's 475-foot blast on May 6 had previously held the longest-homer mark, until Mazara belted an 83-mph cutter from Angels starter Hector Santiago well into the upper deck in right field.
Before Mazara's home run, Ryan Rua had the longest home run by a Ranger this season when he hit a 446-foot homer against the White Sox on May 10. Mazara's homer is also the third-longest long ball of the Statcast™ era, behind Kris Bryant's 495-foot shot hit last Sept. 6, and Michael Taylor's 493-foot homer hit Aug. 20, 2015.
Mazara's longest home run before Wednesday was the first one of his career, a 444-foot blast against the Angels on April 10.
