UFC heavyweight champ Stipe Miocic will get to stand on home turf when he looks to defend his belt for the first time, when he meets Alistair Overeem in the main event of UFC 203

UFC officials today announced the new event, which takes place Sept. 10 at Quicken Loans Arena.

The fight card marks the UFC’s first trip to Cleveland and the first time the octagon has visited Ohio since UFC 96, which took place in Columbus in March 2009.

A little surprised heavyweight hasn't progressed more over the years. Most of the top guys are veterans on the downside and very few up and comers.

At that size/athletic profile you are better off playing football for a living is a big reason why but still figured it would progress faster.

Has there been anything written or are there any theories out there as to why it hasn't evolved at the rate of the other divisions? 205 as well.

I would think the main 2 reasons are 1. Big athletic dudes are better off playing football, basketball or hockey and 2. Guys that big that fight for a living just can't maintain being elite for very long because so much can go wrong with your body when you are 6'5 260.

Still surprised how few good fighters there are at HW. When Cain/JDS came along it seemed like they were about to usher in a new era and it just didn't happen.

205 has stalled out some too really. Besides Bones and Gustaffson, who has really come along in the last 5-6 years? Cormier but he isn't young in age.
