Red Sox slugger David Ortiz is a big fan of Boston sports teams, but he won’t be watching the Patriots at the beginning of the 2016 season if Tom Brady’s Deflategate suspension stands, he said in an interview with SI’s Andy Gray.
“I think it’s stupid, to be honest with you,” Ortiz said of Brady’s suspension over Deflategate. “Put it this way: You’re talking about the one player that everybody wants to watch play. We’re not just talking about any player. We’re talking about Tom Brady. If I turn on the TV on Sunday to watch a Patriots game and I know that Tom Brady is not playing, I would turn off the TV. I don’t want to watch that game.”
Brady’s original four-game suspension for his alleged role in a Patriots scheme to deflate footballs during the 2014 AFC Championship Game was overturned before last season, but was reinstated in April after the NFL’s appeal. Brady is appealing the reinstatement of the suspension, but could miss games against the Cardinals, Dolphins, Texans and Bills if the ruling stands.
