11.2 overnight on cable. monster number. you won't see a world series number that high unless you go back to 2004 and you'll never see an nhl number come close to that.

further evidence that the NBA is the solid 2nd major league in america followed by MLB, and that gap continues to grow. The NBA Finals have been beating the World Series for years now.

NHL meanwhile, not good not at all.

Game 1 of the Stanley Cup finals draws a 2.8, down from 4.2 a year ago. I myself didn't even know the stanley cup finals had started.

By the way, the TNT pre game show for Game 7 drew a 4.8, NHL game 1: 2.8. The pre show of the NBA beat the stanley cup final game one. I repeat, the freaking pre game show. A CBS re run of a show called Scorpion got a 2.6 and the Bachelorette got a 4.4. What's that tell you about the league? League is a joke.

Again, this proves my theory that the NHL is a joke of a league. I'll still maintain by the end of the decade the MLS will be near or past the NHL in terms of viewership and ratings.

What’s Wrong With the NBA’s TV Ratings?

Through last week, the average audience for TNT’s national games is down 8.2% from 2014, according to Nielsen, while ESPN’s national games are down 5.6%. Both cable networks also saw early-season losses in the valuable demographic of adults ages 18 to 49, with TNT off by 12.7% and ESPN down 4.5% through Thursday.

These drops are part of a steady decline in the NBA’s cable viewership since the 2012 lockout season. NBA audiences last season fell 10% on ESPN to 1.5 million viewers and 12% on TNT to 1.7 million—their lowest since 2008.

I also love the fact that a conference final game 7 is being compared to a game 1.

Do they teach these apples to oranges things in that fake graduate school you went to?

First game between Thunder/Warriors got a 6.7. Inside the NBA that same day got a 2.8, same as Finals game 1. That is a little alarming I would say for hockey fans. I also didn't know the Finals started for hockey either

I agree. We need Donald Trump to build that wall and close our borders so that all of those illegals don't come here and watch soccer on TV.

i've been hearing that soccer is going to be more popular than hockey in the states for years..its never gonna happen. I have yet to ever come across an MLS soccer fan... Nobody around my way has big ass philadelphia union stickers on the back of there trucks ... Everybody gets all excited about soccer every 4 years when they play the world cup than its back to the abyss.. Hell I even get into the world cup, but once its over you couldnt pay me to watch a soccer game.. Hockeys always been the bottom of the 4 of the major sports in america, it is what it is! It should come to no suprise that the ratings are last place .. the small percentage of hockey fans that have been watching hockey there whole lives will keep on watching hockey, 4th place is still mad people.

I used to follow & wager the NBA religiously, with much success (all documented), until i lost much interest 2-3 years ago.

lol, don't be silly. Of course you did. In fact you have been patiently waiting for the ratings to come out

what happened as a kid? they put you in hockey and someone hurt you?

any idea as to why the 'joke of a league' NHL is considering expansion?....

The NHL couldn't have had worse luck. SJ finally makes it and is overshadowed in its home market by the NBA tam going for history. The SJ - Pitt matchup is for diehards only.

It's more than that. Two major NHL markets in the NHL finals still wouldn't even draw a 5.0 and you know it.

The league isn't a legit national league.

That's why it's not covered like it's a major national league and why ESPN won't waste money on them.

ESPN would rather get in bed with MLS (wisely by the way) then waste money on the NHL.
