People sitting a row behind the GS bench texting and talking on the phones during the game. Don't people live in the moment anymore without these things?

went to Caps/Pens game 3 and a dad had taken 3 kids, guessing around 9-10 years old, sitting in front of me. they spent about 6 minutes actually watching the game and the other 2.5 hours viewing game replays on their phone. Pens have a wi-fi you can log into and then view real-time stats and highlights....

my buddy and i were just shaking our heads that he spent probably $600 to have his kid and friends view replays on an iPhone while Malkin, Ovie, and Sid are 100 feet in front of them

I would take the phones away from my kids when attending events they should be watching

just like I used to take away video game controls and make them get out of the house in the 90's

one year my son didn't want to play any sports during the fall, after he spent the entire first weekend playing the video game of the day I signed him up to play fall ball beginning the next weekend

he pissed and moaned the first weekend he had to play, but got over that really fast and enjoyed the rest of the season

The problem is the parenting.

When I was a kid and it was nice outside, my parents would force me to shut off the video games/TV and make me go outside.

Why aren't these parents making the kids put their phones away?

A lot of parents are afraid to let their kids play outside.

1980's - "I'm going to whip your ass if you don't straightin up"

2010's - "I'm going to take that phone away from you if don't straightin up"

Usually gets the same results

Lol, yup!

1980's, you got beat or grounded, or both, & you hated not being able to hang out with friends, etc.....

2010's: your smartphone gets taken away, & in today's society for teenagers, its the worst because their life revolves around their phone.

Even if you tell them, no TV, no internet, & their grounded, no biggie, their cellphone will take care of their needs.....smart phones are a huge part of today's teenage society......
