I a have been using a Fitbit Charge HR for the past 5 months.. I only like it because I do a lot of walking 5 days a week, and want to keep a record of Steps and miles that I walk. Plus I use the Heart rate monitor.

never really looked at the burning calories record. But when I was talking to a friend of mine, he asked how many Calories am I burning a day.
Went to look and it said over 3,000 !!

He said No way you are burning that much. and sure enough... it's Impossible !!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone that has one of these Fitbits ... having the same problem ?

He told me to ditch the Fitbit and just get a Polar FT7 Heart Rate Monitor
that's all I really need while working out or jogging

Guys a professional trainer and probably knows best...

Ordering one, but still on the fence about ditching the Fitbit

Depends what wrist you have it on BAS, I'm right handed (and wear it on right) and was killing it in calories lost per day, then found out I needed to go change it on my dashboard to 'dominate hand', it was registered as 'non dominate', that was the reason I was losing so many, lol, every gulp of beer I took it was counting

I have the same FB, I use it to see how I sleep at night too along with what you mentioned.

It's not impossible at all to burn 3000 calories a day
Fit bit not only puts the calories you burn during exercise into that number . It calculates every single calorie you burn for the entire day. Even the calories you burn when you are sleeping.

If you have a very active day of running and working out 3k calories is really not that much

You could probably lay in bed all day and not get out for 24 hrs and burn 2k calories if you have a high metabolism

Honestly whoever told you that you can't burn 3k calories in a day is simply an idiot.
Olympic athletes can burn 10k calories in a day

BAS, I have the exact Fitbit that you have. It isn't an exact science but it is a good tool. You are probably getting your heart rate up pretty good during your walk. You can actually tell how many calories you are burning during your walk by pushing in the stem until it vibrates and push it in again when you stop. It will then tell you how far you walked, calories burned, etc. As long as the information you input when you got it (age, weight, etc.) is correct. Depending on your statistics, you probably did burn 3,000 calories in a day but again, it isn't exact.

I also didn't know how many hours sleep I was getting a night. I was shocked at how many times I wake up and roll over during the night. I average less than six hours of quality sleep a night....not enough. It has a lot of good features but more than anything else, it keeps your mind on exercise. I like mine because I find myself taking the steps instead of the elevator because I need to make my goal for the day.

its hardly accurate- can we expect a motion detector to accurately depict the complex energy metabolism of an organism? :) the numbers are relative. Its use is to guide, motivate. They are relatively consistent (certain activities moreso than others ).

kindly keep in mind that calories in Vs calories out for weight management has been shown to be utter nonsense. Stick to a healthy diet and your body will reap its rewards

Just didn't think I was burning that much per day ...

The weird part was that I had gotten sick about a month ago and was walking or in the gym for almost 3 weeks.
So I just thought maybe I wasn't burning off what the watch said.

Its a guide . There is no way a tool like that can give you an accurate figure. Honestly I know of no device in the world that can give you a calorie out figure that is 100% accurate no matter how much it cost.

But 3k calories for an active person your age is a pretty decent ballpark number that is probably not far from the truth.

Just add up the calories of food you eat in a day.

If you don't watch what you eat it will blow you away how fast you can go through 3k cals eatimg .

2 slices of pizza at Costco is over 1800 calories . Throw in a drink and you over 2k with one small meal.

So if you can easily eat 3k calories surely you can easily burn 3k

3000 calories equals 1 pound of body weight.
So whenever you accumulate 3000 calories more then you burn you gain a pound of weight.

So just do the math.

Why is Costco Pizza 800 cals a Slice ??? never have eaten a slice there, and glad I didn't
avg. slice is 300 calories

I don't count Calories, just started eating better and healthier the past year, with fast walking , light jogging and some weights.

Don't think I'm taking in 2K a day .... but I'm going to record them for a week just to see

Yeah going to check and see everything was set up correct.

Yes I do and have learned how to maintain my Heart rate when walking or doing light jogging.
That's how I changed my metabolism from past years.
Really weird how that works .

also I knew that you can burn while sleeping..

I too can't believe how many times I wake up while sleeping... I think at one time I had avg. like 16 times

It taste very good. I will give them that.

But way too many cals

If you did not burn calories when you sleeping you would not wake up the next morning
