Add James Harden to the growing list of NBA stars who won't be going to the Rio Olympics:

The answer is easy when you consider the below description of NBA players today:

pri·ma don·na
ˌprēmə ˈdänə/
noun
noun: primadonna

a very temperamental person with an inflated view of their own talent or importance.
synonyms: ego, self-important person, his nibs, temperamental person, princess, diva, pooh-bah; informal drama queen
"a city council filled with prima donnas"

The only thing they got wrong above in describing the word & NBA together perfectly as one was using the word "city" where they should have stated "a sports league filled with prima donnas"

Curious what the average salary of USA NBA player vs nhl player in last olympics was. Anyone have that? It might explain quite a bit

part of the reason is that olympics hockey is in middle of NHL season so it's not like players are wishing they were on an extended vacation... not sure it's a great comparison

the better comparison is that a soccer player, unless they are seriously injured, will never turn down an invite to play in a major tournament which are all held after the regular season for the top players. Ronaldo, Messi, Bale, Rooney don't turn down Euro2016 because they want to bang some tail in Monaco...their nations would disown them

I think a big reason that the NHL'ers are so eager to play is because they are brought up in an international system. Junior World cup and World cup are big things in the hockey world and it just carries over into the Olympics.
