not in the new era of basketball.... Cavs lack of consistent offense has clearly been hurting them

elite is a stretch man. I would consider them good defensively. Even Curry doesn't get enough credit. Lead the league in steals, he is a little fly on defense. But elite?

vs Thunder (avg 106)
88
101
111
118
133
91
102

vs Blazers (avg 114)
121
125
120
99
106

Thats a lot of points to be giving up, yet they still made it this far

Thunder scored 18pts in the 4th quarter of game 6 and 88pts in gm 7. And they're pretty good.

Cleveland in the biggest game of the series tonight was shut down in the 4th quarter. Games 1 and 2 they also held Cleveland down.

And just quoting pts is bad because you aren't accounting for pace.

But how much of that pace was due credit to the Warriors? 4th qtr fallouts has been OKC all year long, not just those 2 games.

sometimes GS plays great defense, but their defensive efforts are very inconsistent

I wouldn't call them an elite defensive team, but it looks like we'll be calling them the 2x champion

That's just because they can score with ease vs most teams so they don't always have the intensity. OKC is like that too. Don't really need to dig in defensively to win games but their personnel on the defensive end is very good. Their consistency isn't elite because it doesn't really have to be, but when you get to the conf finals and NBA finals then what your upside is can be more important. They certainly have the personnel.

Obviously just hitting 18 3's a game is an easier way to win most of the time.

You need to look at defensive numbers that take pace out of the equation. Golden State led the league in number of possessions used per game. In terms of defensive efficiency, they were number 4 in the league.

Even being #4 is deceiving since many nights they didn't really have to try that hard on D, can score 120 vs most teams pretty easily. Then all the 4th quarter blowouts, etc.

The Spurs were the #1 team and GS eventually got ahold of OKC in a way the Spurs couldn't.

Iguodala is barely playing over 1/2 the game in the regular season, probably doesn't HGH cycle as much as he does in the playoffs.

In most cases defense wins championships.

Exceptions that instantly come to mind are Kurt Warner led Rams & these Warriors..

The difference in the game last night was the Warriors absolutely locking in on defense in the 2nd half while Cleveland gave up open 3s to the two guys you can't give up open 3s to.
