I think Ichiro would be in the same position had he started in MLB as well.

Agree, but 5TEAM is still correct with what he said...

Well, not exactly. The Japanese league is just below MLB talent wise. It's better than AAA ball. Ichiro was facing Yu Darvish type pitchers. It's not like they're throwing Oil Can Boyd out there each night in Japan.

I don't follow baseball closely and even I think its a BS stat. Great individual accomplishment but needs its own category if they want to start counting and keeping track of cross league players combined stats.

Agree with you and it is an impressive amount of hits, but 5 TEAM is right that it is meaningless in regards to MLB

I mean, I'm not advocating for it to count against Rose's record etc. but I don't discount the feat either if that makes sense.

Fact is if he would have started in MLB Pete Rose would be 2nd and Ty Cobb 3rd

That is a guess and not a fact.

If Ichiro would've been in the MLB from the beginning, he would have had more hits. The Japan league isn't that far below the MLB in talent and they play less games. Ichiro would've had a shitload more at bats if his Japan years were in the MLB.

The only knock I have on Ichiro is that he tried to pad his stats on hitting. He was smart enough where he could've had a lot more walks but he wanted the hits instead of just getting on base. For the team, it is usually better to get a higher on base % than # of hits.

Rose had 427 hits in the minor leagues, didn't get to the league until age 22.

Ichiro started playing at age 18 in Japan

You think Ichiro makes a MLB roster at age 18? Seriously doubt it.
