Nah it isn't. Most employers check that now.

It makes sense, gauges how responsible you are.

There are about a dozen states that are not allowed to check, so you need to see if your state is on that list.

Some states need to tell you that they will be running a Credit check as part of their Backround check

Yeah, one medical related accident or disease and your credit could be fucked. People who visit the US from other countries buy short term medical insurance so they dont go bankrupt if they happen to break a leg or tear an ACL. Our medical system is so fucked up!

Whether on your own time or not, you still represent your company/school. Too bad.

Some states don't allow it, and many more are following suit. I think employers should be able to do it personally. But I also think it does some harm too.

again, within reason. One example I can think of is Lebron James wearing "I can't breathe" t shirt. I would not allow my employees to wear that at work like he did, but if they wore it on their own time, that should be ok.

no they don't

unless it is a finance position or one that requires a company credit card (sales rep, clinical specialist) it is very rare to have an employer run a credit check.

Is this supposed to be a joke?

he's right. well, half right. alot of people without credit history are very poor, do not trust banks, etc and some of those are irresponsible people, but I do know people whom do not use any type of credit that you would lend money to in a heartbeat.
