Las Vegas a 'viable option' for MLB expansion, Rob Manfred says
The NHL is expanding into Las Vegas and the NFL’s Raiders are attempting a move to Sin City. Could Major League Baseball follow?
When asked if a MLB team could call Las Vegas home, league commissioner Rob Manfred called the notion a “viable alternative” despite the city's gambling culture.
“We passed that by a long time ago, right? There are casinos all over the place,” Manfred said on “The Michael Kay Show” on YES. “I see Las Vegas as a viable alternative. I would not disqualify it just because of the gambling issue.”
MLB last expanded in 1998 with the Devil Rays and Diamondbacks, but Manfred said in April that a move to 32 teams isn’t far off.
