It was interesting to see how the national debt went from one of the most important parts of the primary in 2012, to completely non-existent this year. Three of the last four eight-year presidents have seen the debt more than double while in office and Americans still vote for these candidates, so why should they pay any attention to it?

I don't know if Trump will do anything about the debt, nobody has yet, but he can't be blamed for creating the debt. He's not the career politician with fingerprints all over DC

Clinton will tax and spend. Trump will borrow and spend. We all have our preferences on which one is better, but on the most important issue the president must deal with neither one is the right way for us to go. Yet only 2% of us would want Gary Johnson.

Increasing taxes decreases revenues and the only thing that increases revenues is a growing economy

society's very existence is dependent upon economic growth, something we've lacked for 8+ years now

having said that, spending cuts are essential, and would be pretty darn simple to implement too, but tax increases would be counter productive

spending cuts are essential,

Yet the path to re-election for Bush and Obama was to increase spending. The path to nomination for Clinton and Trump was to ignore the issue. Is the real problem the politicians, or that we have a system where politicians must give in to the demands of the voters?

Agree with the spending cuts. Just the growing size of the federal government alone is out of control.
