OT: Which pay plan?

The company I work for is expanding and in turn my role is growing as well.

Last year my base was 65k and I make another 40k in bonuses for just over $100,000 for the year. It was a very strong year for us and my bonus is tied to overall company success. Obviously there is no guarantee of that going forward but at the same time I have potential to make even higher bonuses if our expansion goes well.

However, my employer offered me an alternative, more simplified pay plan in my new role. They offered to ditch the bonuses completely and pay me a flat $2,000 a week salary.

On the one hand, this is tempting because it's guaranteed and because my semi annual bonus is annihilated by taxes. But on the other hand, I'm afraid I could be costing myself money down the road if we continue to grow and I would have stuck with the bonuses. However, even if that happens and I took the $2,000 a week, couldn't I just ask for another raise at some point in the future?

Which would you take?

I have either been on commission or owned my own business for the majority of the last 20 years and I like it. That being said, seems like the 2k a week for you is better, but would need ALOT more info of course.

2k a week is great pay and would be the safer, less stressful choice. But if your company is growing, they may be offering you this choice because they know they will have to pay you more in the long run. What is the new bonus structure and ceiling? is the possibility worth the unknown and the gamble? if you could have made 115 and end up making 104 instead, I don't think your life style would change or you would be losing much sleep over that choice. Consistency and guaranteed does have value

trick question.....you take the $2k a week and they fire you instantly cause you don't have faith in the company!

I agree with everything you're saying

That would be the best...counter with a higher weekly #...it will work if you do it right!

They probably are expanding to big and won't be able to pay bonuses in the future look for a new job

negotiate, $ 1,500 per week with upside incentives

if production is the same, make sure you're realizing a small increase

if production surges, you both benefit

Your bonus is taxed the same way that semi annual income is taxed. Your company is probably withholding 25% fed and the max state rate up front, but @ the end of the day, you are paying the same amount no matter how the 40K is delivered (via bonus or spread out)

JC gets the extra bonus tax that his other money is sheltered from lol
