We have always owned SUV/Cars and never really wanted a pickup but seems like more and more I have had situations where it would have been nice.

Main reason is I don't like the ride of a truck and a large SUV has hauled all the kids around nicely and easily pulls our boat. I would be buying new and have zero use for something like a F350 but off all the 4 door pickups do any NOT ride like a truck? I commute about 35 minutes to work...

I would say Chevy most likely. Prob the same suspension or shock system that makes cadis run like a cadi.
I used to have a Titan a couple of years ago (Chevy before)..and friends have had ford and Chevy and dodge.

A half ton will ride more like a car than any 3/4of one ton.

If your roads suck like the ones in Illinois, nothing rides very good.

Just bought a new F 150. Always have driven GMCs, but Ford blows GM out of the water in trucks. Floats on the road, great interior, and the back seat has tons of leg room. Very impressed.

Smoothest ride? Honda Ridgeline, and it's not even close.
I agree, and the new ones were just released and on the sales floor now. As for a complete truck, I wouldn't trade my Tundra for anything, unless I had to have a diesel, and I don't...

Smoothest riding half ton truck out right now is the Dodge Ram 1500. Too many brand loyalist in the world thought to even get unbiased opinions.

GM and ford are still running a leaf spring rear setup and coil over fronts. The ram is far superior with its new (in 2010) could read and coil over front.

Just go go drive all them. The only thing close would be IF gmc is putting the magnetic suspension under the Denali 1/2 trucks, but you are now looking at a 65,000 rig.

drive each, all brands have their issues so find a good dealer. A good dealer makes buying a new car and keeping it all the difference. Disclaimer: my last 5 vehicles (1 ram 1500, 1 Silverado 1500, 1 gmc 1500, 2 ram 2500's, and a ford/Lincoln suv)

I agree with all of this, especially the brand loyalist. Like myself, I wouldn't drive a Dodge if it was given to me (except if I needed a big diesel), but the next guy will say they're the best around. I do find it funny how they're looking more and more like a Tundra though...

Thanks everyone. I wanted to narrow it down a little before I go look. The Ram 1500 looks pretty good and the F-150 got a few votes (I think they look "ok"). I will try the GMC and Chevy as well. I tried the Tundra a couple weeks ago and hated the ride. But again, this will be a commuter and pull a boat.

Will check out the Honda but don't love the looks. I should have said which one looks the best (to me) drives the smoothest! :)

I started leasing a Chevy Silverado a year ago after having an F-150 for 10 years. I agree, F-140 was better. Will be going back to Ford when this lease is over.
