What kind of deal did you get? And what did you say to them to get it?

well I've had dtv for 18yrs, always get the nfl/mlb/nhl packages, so imo that makes a difference.

I just said I give you guys a lot of $$

I got $9 off each monthly payment on the ticket and $30 off my monthly bill for a yr if I stay with dtv for a yr.

If you don't like the deal offered, call back week later, you never know who you will get

2 years ago I called and threatened to leave and they gave me it to me for free. The max version too with live streams to the app included.

Last year I tried the same and they called my bluff. They were like "sorry to see you go, when would you like us to discontinue service? Right now?" I was like "ummmmm, lemme think about it and call you back." Hahaha. How embarrassing.

Dtv so unpredictable when it comes to Sunday Ticket.
Ive had years where I play all the games and it works. I've had other years where they call my bluff.

I had 3 years in a row where they called my bluff so I did not even try last year then DTV called me up unsolisted and just flat out ask me if I would like Sunday ticket with all the extras for free just for being a good coustomer .

I think ATT is gonna be easier to work a deal then it was before they took over. Just a feeling.

And the Sunday ticket not nearly as needed as it was 10 years ago.

Now you have Thursday Night, Sunday Night, Monday Night.

The games in England .

They spread the schedule out to so many different days that it cuts into the amount of games that are actually on Sunday .

And the games on Sunday they put most of those on at 12/1pm now . And most of the time you gonna wanna watch your local game anyway that you can get for free.

They don't put nearly as many 4/3PM games as they use to.
Some weeks there are only 2 4/3PM games the whole day and you get one of those 2 games for free on the local and the one you get for free is usually the best game anyway.

I notice when I get the Sunday ticket I find myself watching the games that I could have watched for free more often then not.

Not when you don't live in your team's market. If I did there is no way I'd pay as much as I do for the ticket. I'd just do red zone on 1 TV and Bears on big screen at noon...that's pretty much what I do anyway. Then they usually show the best of the 3 or 4 afternoon games anyway.

I honestly may cancel it this year.

With Redzone on 1 screen and your hometown team (or game of choice) on another screen...Don't see the need for Sunday Ticket unless you have 4+ Tv's to make it worth it...

Yea you the perfect example of someone who would benefit .
I was speaking from the standpoint of someone who's favorite team is already in the free local market.

DTV use to have value even for people like me , but now with the schedule so spread out not nearly as big of a deal as it once was

they called my bluff too.. Last year I ended waiting until after the week 1 free trial.. Got the sunday ticket max at a very very cheap rate. Will likely go this route this year.

i cancelled mine a week or two ago, i work sundays and have to start getting ready around halftime of the noon kickoffs, so no point in spending that much to see certain half games each week

OK so after 3 hours on the phone today, here is what I got out of them.

Current bill:
$167.67 (includes $28.99 monthly MLB extra innings)
$138.68 after the last MLB payment comes out in September

New bill:
$96.60 w/ MLB
$67.61 after MLB
All base programming stays the same

3 months free all movie channels
NFL Sunday ticket Max FREE this season

I was off contract and had to sign a new one-year contract.

Here is what I did.

  • Called initially and planted a seed. Told them I've been having technical issues. "My signal goes out all the time, even when it's cloudy". Say you're getting a 721 error. They had me reboot my SWIM power thingy, and said to call back if it doesn't work.
  • Call back the next day and tell the person you want the disconnect department. Tell them you don't feel you are getting value commensurate with what you are paying and want to discuss disconnection.
  • When they transferred me, I told the disconnect person that I've been having technical difficulties. They will see your other ticket in the system to affirm. I told them I called my internet provider and they offered me internet and cable TV bundle that amounted to half of what I'm paying now, and I don't see any reason to pay double, especially considering my signal keeps going out.
  • Tell them you are trying to get your bill under control so you can justify keeping DTV. I said if I stayed I wanted to cancel the NFL ticket but keep red zone. That is not a stand-alone DTV offering, but the disconnection department can do it.
  • She started off by offering to cut my base bill basically in half, and also include Red Zone for free. Told me it's a standard retention offer to do that.
  • Keep harping on the technical difficulties. They scheduled a complete top-to-bottom inspection of my install to see if they can find problems. Because of that she was able to give me the mover's special even though I'm not moving. This is what upped the free red zone to a year free of the whole ticket and the 3 months' HBO.

I think I got extremely lucky, especially with the last part. But for sure if you plan to cancel the ticket, make sure to talk to disconnection dept and tell them you want to cancel ticket but keep red zone, and if you can't do that you're leaving. She offered up free Red Zone in 2 seconds.

They even made the base rate change retro to beginning of this month, so I have a $53 credit on my account now.

God I love DTV's customer service.

They way they got my base bill down was that they have a $50 off per month for 12 months thing they can apply if you are off contract and sign a new 12 month.

The $10 off per month for a year was a "sorry for technical difficulties" freebie.

Well fuck me! Told them I needed to cancel to cut expenses cause wife lost her job and I got a ''no problem sir let me connect you to the department to get this request done for you'' then I hung up lmao! Maybe I should have waited to talk to the department. I'm a terrible negotiator.

Yeah they will send you to the "disconnection department", which was formerly known as the retention department. Guess they realized it was too obvious and customers were taking advantage so they renamed it.

The approach I took this time was not to threaten leaving, just said I'm considering leaving if I can't get my bill down, because cable is so much cheaper. That way you don't paint yourself into a corner, if they say there's nothing they can do then just say you'll think about it.

But yes, the disconnection dept are the people you definitely need to talk to. So getting transferred there is a good thing. Don't hang up. Haha
