Even after seeing the value he adds to the Chicago Cubs bullpen, several fans are still disappointed in the fact that the North Siders dealt away their number one prospect as part of a multi-player deal to acquire Aroldis Chapman from the Yankees.
A big part of why the deal went through was despite Gleyber Torres being ranked the number one prospect prior to the deal, several of the great minds in the Chicago front office thought there was someone else deserving of the title, “number one prospect.”
But they may have found another gem in their farm system in 19-year-old Eloy Jimenez who is currently playing in the Midwest League as a member of the South Bend Cubs.
After starting his minor league career in 2014, he has built a name for himself as the next phenom Chicago Cubs prospect. Throughout 94 games in 2016, the young right-handed batter has racked up a slash line of .342/.379/.548. He has jacked the ball out of the yard 12 times, has hit 35 doubles, 2 triples, and driven in 72 runs for South Bend. He smacked a monster home run during the Futures games during the All-Star break and made an impressive catch that had everyone talking.
In his article from July 28, Patrick Mooney writes of the sky being the limit for the Cubs young star and that he is already drawing comparison to Kris Bryant from the Cubs organization.
At the age of 19, with a 6-foot-4, 205-pound frame and a smooth right-handed swing, Jimenez reminds the Cubs a little bit of Kris Bryant during his freshman season at the University of San Diego, meaning the sky is the limit.
Chicago fans know that a more than high price was paid to bring Chapman into the bullpen. You don’t just go out and replace someone like Torres. But with another Kris Bryant type player in the works and developing for the Cubs, the future still appears to be as bright as ever on the north side of town.

As long as Chapman pitches the Cubs to a World Series Championship.
