I was reading a thread up here in the OS just now and made me think of how I found this place. That thread is irrelevant, but I thought it would be interesting to see how guys found TheRX. Mine seems like fate when I think back. Strange how things work. Here's how I found it.

So, I first found a gambling forum in 2005 through Google. There was about 25 people total on it. I registered and started posting daily plays like everyone else was doing. I had been gambling for 8 years with pinnacle give or take and liked the idea of posting plays. The site was ran by an LSU student who kept it going. It had about 6 sport threads and a main forum. It was simple, but I didn't know any better and was fine with it. Anyway, there was this dude named TheWiseOne and ill always remember his signature as it said, "The key to successful gambling...pick your 3 best plays and take the opposite." Obviously, this is a terrible idea unless you don't know what you're doing or if you are running cold maybe. I was good at posting winners even back then. :) The student who ran that site was very good to me as he created a sub thread called "The Bourn Theory." Lol. I was famous. Haa

Anyway, I kept hearing the guys talk about some dude named Ace-Ace who was killing it in NFL. I found out the name of this site he was at which was here, obviously. I was blown away by what a huge difference TheRX was. The volume of posters, layout, everything. There was a huge difference than what we see today. The RR was bumping I know that. Not sure why that's not utilized more as you can get away with anything down there!

sometime around 1997 or so I read an article in Casino Player Magazine where it was mentioned. I was playing at a couple books at the time, when things were EZ.. the rest is history.

I googled myself and my name came up on a thread on here. The infamous Fishhead and I went to high school together and he mentioned my name. At the time I thought it was aprapro that a google search led me to a gambling forum given my affinity for gambling.

cy1981 - I shit you not that forum I mentioned, there was a poster with your name and I know he knew about this place as well. That's so weird. It has crossed my mind to ask you on several occasions if you ever posted on a different site. It's odd because like I said there were only 25 peeps and your screen name seems unique. He was a huge Steelers fan.

Wasn't me. That's pretty funny because it's not like my screen name would be a real common one.

great thread and stories so far

mine is far less interesting...

I was working as a Mod on another gambling forum. I did the service play forum and would basically be browsing therx and couple other main forums for tout plays for our own service play forum, so obviously I was aware of this site...

When the old forum went under, I started posting here and.... (damn I can't even think of the name now ) but it was the other main place I got service plays. It wasn't near as big and the guys over there always seemed to be so negative. Every topic, every discussion was not enjoyable.

I was a kid.. young 20s, thought gambling and the old timers were the coolest people. I rarely gambled back then, but I liked BSing about sports, I like learning about the industry, and I thought a lot of the members of the forum were in the know. I posted a lot about my personal life back then on here-- good lord, even my profile picture was a pic of me and my now wife. I asked a lot of personal life questions and always seemed to get good advice. Not the ball breaking, negative attitude that seems to be the norm now... I felt like theRX took me in as a newbie... Dante, BAS, Wilheim, Boxersomething, tridad, soonerdawg, and I'm sure there were a lot more guys that I'm forgetting to mention were nice, helpful and made the forum enjoyable... It felt like the cool kid club here in the OS. Everyone always joking, talking about the previous Bash, the upcoming Bash and inside jokes. I was very much proud to be apart of it even if I was completely unknown to them.

Just to point out the positive of this place...

Is the loyalty that a lot of people give... Look at the join date's of the people here.. I've been here 7 years and that's the most junior poster of those that have replied so far...

That's a cool story. Honestly for me tho, I can't remember lol (old). It was a looong time ago.It was most likely a search engine. I remember just reading the posts and not registering as I was intimidated because I thought that everyone who posted on here was either a bookie or ex-bookie and I didn't think I was in their league. But I definitely learned a lot on here.

I remember WildBill as far as screen name, but never talked to him personally. I agree with the intimidation factor. It took me 2 years i bet to post up here in the OS because of that factor. Its like VegasVics sig, "I don't know enough to know i don't know." There were people who forgot more than i would ever know i felt.

Defying rattled off some names i haven't heard in a while.

I always thought Steak Tartar was funny. Had some good one liner for sure.

Where did y'all work in CR and what did y'all do?

I worked with Steak when offshore opened in the Dominican in 1986-87...met him and he was my first boss....Steak went to Costa Rica and was the Rio boss for awhile...A lot of guys learned from Steak and went on to nice positions at various sports books...one of the funniest guys I have ever been around...that first year in the Dominican was a blast...I have some real good stories...
