yowza.
I'm borrowing this idea and am going to implement it.
My idea is going to actually link your activity to your residence.

I don't think those bicycle generators actually produce that much electricity. It could be tough to make it work.

1 hour on a bike will provide enough power to charge an AAA battery.

Exactly. Which is why it's just a stupid gimmick to attract people who don't know any better by appealing to some dumb sense of saving the planet. If you worked out the math on how many hours of cycling it would take to produce enough electricity to power a treadmill for 1 hour, it would no doubt be shocking to most.

Got to love the 100 pound woman driving the 3 ton Suburban an extra 5 miles so she can workout at the special human/solar powered eco gym.

If this could actually work it would be the greatest idea of all time and put all other gyms out of business

would imagine that the added cost of a bike that creates energy and all of the required supporting technology make it so you would have to bike for a long time to cover the cost and start making money

so basically you would have to either lose a shit load of money or charge your customers way above market fees (and hope lots of do-gooders sign up and then dont come) to not get killed early on

for example i think a typical solar panel deal takes around 7 years to break even/justify the investment?

think there might be better investment opportunities out there but wish you luck!
