The Chicago Bears and New England Patriots completed their final joint practice before their preseason game on Wednesday morning. There are many storylines going into each team's second preseason game, but one is getting much attention.
Jimmy Garoppolo will be the Patriots starting quarterback the first four weeks of the season because of Tom Brady's suspension. Those four games will be an audition for the other 31 teams in the NFL. After watching Garopolo play, teams will make a decision on whether or not to pursue him in the future.
According to the Boston Globe, Garoppolo is expected to test free agency after the 2017 season. Similar to what Brock Osweiler did.
<a href="http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20160717/sports/160719189/" target="_blank">The Globe story noted that there is a possibility Garoppolo "could walk at the end of the (2017) season and sign wherever he wants, and his hometown Bears likely will be in the market for an arm."
One team that could be interested in Garoppolo is the Chicago Bears.
There will be a day that Jay Cutler is no longer the starting quarterback. By 2017, Cutler will 35-years-old and may have to beat out another young quarterback to maintain his spot on the roster. That young quarterback could be Garoppolo.
One way or another, the Bears will be in the market for another quarterback by then.
Garoppolo grew up in Arlington Heights and played his college football at Eastern Illinois University. He's a hometown kid.
If Garoppolo plays well enough in the first four games his value will sky rocket and the Patriots may actually consider trading him. Hopefully, the Bears could get in on some of those possible trade talks. If not, Garoppolo will most likely be available for the 2017 offseason.
Looks like Ryan Pace has a similar idea.

At Eastern Illinois, Garoppolo threw for over 13,000 yards and 118 touchdowns. His quarterback rating was 146.3. We will see if that can translate to the NFL this fall.
