I would get an endoscopy. Possibly you have a hiatal hernia where the sphincter on top of your stomach is incapable of closing all the way because part of the stomach sticks out of the diaphram. If you have not started any treatment yet, I would avoid PPI medications to reduce stomach acid secretion even if your doctor prescribes them because messing with stomach chemistry will just attack the symptom and not the underlying cause and potentially cause complications. If a hiatal hernia is not causing the reflux, your reflux could be related to an H Pylori infection which is the most common cause if ulcers. They can test for this bacteria with by removing some of your stomach lining for analysis during the endoscopy. Depending on whether the cause of the reflux is a hernia or infection or both or something else, your treatment options would vary.
