[h=1]Lochte, 3 US swimmers lied about robbery to cover up gas station brawl[/h]

Ryan Lochte and three other US Olympic swimmers lied about being robbed at gunpoint to cover up a brawl they had with a gas station security guard, authorities said Thursday.
Brazilian authorities have video of a brouhaha involving American swimmers Ryan Lochte, Jack Conger, Gunnar Bentz and Jimmy Feigen and a rent-a-cop, ABC News reported.
At least one of the swimmers can be seen fighting with the security guard and one of the Americans was shown breaking down a bathroom door during the melee, according to ABC.
“One of the swimmers was seen on CCTV footage breaking down the door to the bathroom at the gas station and fighting with a security guard” on the night of the incident, a Brazilian police official said.
When the US swimmers first reported the incident, they were too drunk to give even the most basic details — such as the number of robbers, ABC reported.
Citing Brazilian security sources, Reuters reported Thursday that the swimmers forked up cash to cover the cost of damage done at the gas station.
Conger and Bentz had been set to jet out of Rio de Janeiro airport Wednesday night before they were grounded in Brazil.
They were held for four hours late Wednesday and early Thursday before being released.

Three US consular officials and a Brazilian attorney rushed to meet Conger and Bentz at the airport, and told them to keep their mouths shut for now, according to Brazil’s largest newspaper, Folha de Sao Paulo.
“They were very shocked and did not understand why they were refused passage (out of Brazil),” said the athletes’ defense lawyer Sergio Guerra.
“My clients were taken off the plane and told to make a statement which is an aberration of justice. What’s causing me great shock is the retention of the passports of these witnesses.”
Feigen had also been set to fly out Wednesday but didn’t show up for his flight.
Lochte had already flown home to the US on Monday, a police spokesman said.
Feigen has been in contact with police and all three men planned to meet with Brazilian law enforcement on Thursday, according to USOC spokesman Patrick Sandusky.
The US State Department urged the swimmers to cooperate with Brazilian officials.

If I were in a brawl, I'd admit to it. No one would make up a story to cover up a fight. Was something else was going on in the bathroom that no one would want to admit to....??

Two security guards admitting pulling guns on Lochte and the other swimmers that night. They paid the security guards $51 for damage done to a gas station bathroom door.

It's reasonable to assume Lochte may have thought he was in fact being robbed at gunpoint.

What are the odds he was telling the truth?
Brazil police pull other 2 dudes off the plane (then they change their story? that sounds fishy as well)
Rio isn't the safest place

Here's my theory. Lochte banged some skank, had to lie to his girlfriend about why he got back so late. Gf tells his mom, he then has to lie to his mom. Mom tells the press, and by then, he had to stick to his story. If it's not something like this, the story makes no sense whatsoever. All they had to do was go home and sleep it off and keep their mouths shut, and nobody was gonna find out anything. And even if they had found out, so what, they pissed in public and broke a door, which they paid for.

But, I don't think he thinks he lied?

Picture this...you're drunk and need to piss. Two guys in cop uniforms pull guns on you and your friends (admitted by security guards). They're speaking portugeuse and you don't understand. You think they're mad because you just broke the bathroom door of the gas station bathroom. You give them $51 and then leave.

A reasonable person may assume they in fact were robbed.

It's only getting better.

TMZ reporting the gas station edited the surveillance video to not show the security guards pointing guns at Lochte and the other swimmers.

It is possible, I guess. If he was extremely intoxicated, and the details were fuzzy. But the other kids already told the authorities they lied, so I think he's screwed. Nothing of legal substance will happen, but his endorsements are probably done. Plus, a cabbie that took two Brazilian girls home from the same party said that they told him they had banged one of the swimmers. That might come back to bite him.

Ryan Lochte is getting screwed in this situation.

Three different American news outlets reported no damage to that gas station bathroom.

Gunnar Bentz's official statement below. Sure sounds a lot like how Lochte described the event happening. Again, what did they lie about?

“I want to offer a sincere apology to the United States Olympic Committee, USA Swimming, the extraordinary women and men of Team USA and the University of Georgia. Being a member of the Olympic Swimming Team was an honor and a dream come true. The accomplishments of my teammates were awe-inspiring and I’m so pleased I got to see them up close. I regret this situation has drawn attention away from the Olympics, which have been hosted so incredibly well by Brazil and its citizens.

“While I am anxious to put this matter behind me and rejoin my Georgia teammates in classes, practices and competitions, I feel compelled to stress several key points.

1. I was never a suspect in the case from the beginning (Brazilian law enforcement officials saw me only as a witness).
2. I never made a false statement to anyone at any time.

“I also want to be forthright about the details of what transpired last Sunday. What follows is consistent with the account I gave to the Brazilian authorities when I was interviewed for the first and only time on Thursday in Rio de Janeiro:

“After attending an event with several swimmers from different nations, I left in a taxicab along with U.S. swimmers Jack Conger, Jimmy Feigen and Ryan Lochte around 6 a.m. On the way back to the Olympic Village, we pulled into a convenience store to use the restroom. There was no restroom inside, so we foolishly relieved ourselves on the backside of the building behind some bushes. There was a locked door out back and I did not witness anyone breaking it open. I am unsure why, but while we were in that area, Ryan pulled to the ground a framed metal advertisement that was loosely anchored to the brick wall. I then suggested to everyone that we needed to leave the area and we returned to the taxi.

“Two men, whom I believe to have been security guards, then instructed us to exit the vehicle. No guns were drawn during this exchange, but we did see a gun tucked into one of the guard’s waistband. As Jimmy and Jack were walking away from the vehicle, the first security guard held up a badge to me and drew his handgun. I yelled to them to come back toward us and they complied. Then the second guard drew his weapon and both guards pointed their guns at us and yelled at us to sit on a nearby sidewalk.

“Again, I cannot speak to his actions, but Ryan stood up and began to yell at the guards. After Jack and I both tugged at him in an attempt to get him to sit back down, Ryan and the security guards had a heated verbal exchange, but no physical contact was made.

“A man that I believe to be a customer approached us and offered to help as he spoke both English and Portuguese. Understandably, we were frightened and confused during this time. Through the interpreter, one of the guards said that we needed to pay them in order to leave. I gave them what I had in my wallet, which was a $20 bill, and Jimmy gave them 100 Reals, which is about $50 in total. They lowered the guns and I used hand gestures to ask if it was okay to leave and they said yes. We walked about a block down the street and hailed another taxi to return to the Village.

“Videos of this situation have been emerging the last several days. However, I am confident that some video angles have not been shown that would further substantiate my account. I also believe some scenes have been skipped over. Additionally, I would like to stress that our original taxi was not pulled over; the only occupants of the taxi were the four of us and the driver; and to my knowledge, there was no damage done to the door or the inside of the restroom.

“I am so thankful for the love and support of my family, my friends and my teammates during this time. Without question, I am taking away a valuable life lesson from this situation. In everything I do, I am representing my family, my country and my school. I will not take that responsibility lightly.”
