Cross one potential fighter off the free agency list after Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone inked a new eight-fight contract with the UFC on Thursday.

Cerrone's representatives at KHI Management confirmed the new deal to FOX Sports following an initial report from MMAJunkie.

Cerrone was victorious this past Saturday night with a TKO win over Rick Story at UFC 202 that earned him a spot in the top 10 rankings at welterweight. Following that win, Cerrone only had one fight left on his current UFC deal — at least until he signed a new contract on Thursday.

According to Cerrone's manager, the new deal will also bring exciting fights for his client after completely his 22nd bout inside the Octagon this past weekend.

"Big things coming for "Cowboy" very soon," Josh Jones from KHI Management said when speaking to FOX Sports.

Cerrone is one of the most well known and well liked fighters on the UFC roster with a willingness to step up and face anybody and everybody with almost no notice whatsoever.

In fact, just days after becoming the first fighter to ever defeat Story by TKO on Saturday night, Cerrone had already asked UFC president Dana White for a chance to face Erick Silva at the upcoming event in Brazil in September.

It doesn't sound like Cerrone will be getting that particular fight, but with a new contract in place, there are plenty of marquee matchups on the horizon for the veteran UFC competitor.
