KEY STAT: Both teams have scored in only one of the last five Manchester derbies

EXPERT VERDICT: The first Manchester derby of the season was always going to be a hotly-anticipated fixture and the fine starts made by United and City have stoked the excitement for partisans and neutrals. However, this clash of the two title favourites could be a cagey affair with the draw looking the best bet.

RECOMMENDATION: Draw

KEY STAT: Burnley have beaten Hull in five of their last six Turf Moor meetings

EXPERT VERDICT: Burnley have a terrific home record against Hull, and the Clarets – who lost just twice at Turf Moor in the Championship last term – are worth backing. The Tigers have started well under difficult circumstances but it will not be easy for them to maintain their form.

RECOMMENDATION: Burnley

KEY STAT: Stoke scored six goals in their last eight league games

EXPERT VERDICT: Stoke’s only goals in the league this term came from a direct free-kick and a penalty and they may struggle to break down a solid Tottenham defence. Spurs are yet to sparkle in attack, however, and their first three matches have featured only five goals so a tight encounter at the bet365 Stadium is likely.

RECOMMENDATION: Tottenham to win 1-0

KEY STAT: Southampton have not kept an away clean sheet since February

EXPERT VERDICT: Arsenal hit full stride with an emphatic victory against Watford and the Gunners should be backed to ease past Southampton. The Saints have not started well under Claude Puel, drawing at home with Watford and Sunderland and being soundly beaten by Manchester United.

RECOMMENDATION: Arsenal-Arsenal double result

KEY STAT: Three of West Brom’s four goals this term have come from set-pieces

EXPERT VERDICT: Bournemouth have taken just one point from their first three games but their performances have been encouraging enough. West Brom fans weren’t happy with the lack of initiative shown during the transfer window and a trip to the south coast may not improve their mood.

KEY STAT: There have been just nine goals in the six league games played by these sides

EXPERT VERDICT: Middlesbrough have made a solid start on their return to the top flight and can maintain their unbeaten run with a draw against the FA Cup runners-up. Crystal Palace have secured the signatures of a host of big names including Christian Benteke, but could take time to settle and may see a point at the Riverside as a good result.

WNBA Betting Recap - 8/29-9/4
By Joe Williams

League Betting Notes (Monday, Aug. 29 through Sunday, Sept. 4)

-- Favorites went 11-4 straight up (SU)
-- Underdogs went 8-7 against the spread (ATS)
-- Home teams posted a 10-5 SU record
-- Home teams posted a 8-7 ATS record
-- The 'over' went 9-6

Team Betting Notes

-- Los Angeles (24-5) had a bit of a rough patch after the Olympics, but they rebounded nicely in the past week with a 3-0 SU record. Still, they're having difficulty against the number, going just 1-2 ATS in the past week, and 2-7 ATS over the past nine.

-- Phoenix (13-16) looked like they might be piecing together a hot streak, but they dropped each of their past two road outings and failed to cover in each. The Mercury have dropped four of their past five on the road while going 2-3 ATS during the span. Their road trip concludes in Atlanta (14-13) Tuesday. They won in Atlanta back on July 3 by a 95-87, covering as two-point favorites.

-- Chicago (15-13) continues to improve, winning for the fourth straight game, and seventh time in eight outings. The Sky has posted 90 or more points in each of their past four wins, and the 'over' has connected in five in a row. Chicago is 6-2 ATS over their past eight heading into their game Wednesday in D.C.

-- Minnesota (24-5) won each of their home games, splitting against the number. The Lynx are just 7-9 ATS over their past 16 games, and they're 9-7 ATS in 16 games this season as a double-digit favorite.

-- The Lynx cooled off Connecticut (11-18). Despite the fact the Sun are seven games under .500 overall, they're 4-3 SU and 5-2 ATS over their past seven road outings. They're back on the road Friday in New York (20-9). In the two previous meetings the Sun is 2-0 SU and 1-1 ATS against the Liberty.

Preview: Storm (12-17) at Liberty (20-9)

Date: September 07, 2016 7:00 PM EDT

The New York Liberty will honor one of their all-time greats and look to lock up a top-three seed in the playoffs on Wednesday night, when rookie star Breanna Stewart leads the Seattle Storm into Madison Square Garden.

With a win over the Storm, the Liberty (20-9) can finish no worse than third in the league standings. New York is coming off a bounce-back win against the Phoenix Mercury after absorbing a disappointing 98-77 loss to the Indiana Fever on Sept. 1.

Tina Charles scored 23 points, grabbed 15 rebounds and hit a career milestone in the Liberty's 92-70 blowout of the Mercury on Saturday. Charles reached 4,000 career points in the win and drew emphatic praise from her coach.

"We talk about inside that she's the best post player in the world, men or women," Liberty coach Bill Laimbeer said after Saturday's win. "She's that consistent and that dominant. There's more to her that we're waiting to see."

The Storm (12-17) also are coming off an impressive win, 91-82 over the Dream at Atlanta on Sunday. Sue Bird scored 23 points and Stewart had 23 points, eight rebounds and six assists, continuing her standout rookie campaign. The leading Rookie of the Year candidate leads the Storm in scoring (18.2 points per game), rebounds (9.3 per game) and blocks (57).

Stewart will need to have another big game against the Liberty, who have won the last eight meetings with Seattle. The Storm's last win over New York came in August 2012.

Charles had 18 points in the Liberty's 78-74 win over the Storm on July 6 in New York. The Liberty jumped out to an 18-point lead but had to hold off a late charge from Seattle to secure the victory.

New York also won at Seattle this season, 86-78 on June 5.

The Liberty will hold a retirement ceremony for veteran Swin Cash after Wednesday's game. Cash, who was named one of the WNBA's 20 greatest and most influential players, has won three league championships and two NCAA titles during her illustrious career, which will conclude at the end of the season. The ceremony will take place on the court after the game.

Cash is averaging 5.2 points and 3.4 rebounds per game this season.

Preview: Sky (15-13) at Mystics (11-17)

Date: September 07, 2016 7:00 PM EDT

Two teams headed in opposite directions collide Wednesday, when the struggling Washington Mystics host Elena Delle Donne and the surging Chicago Sky at Verizon Center.

The Mystics (11-17) snapped a two-game slide with an 88-83 road win over the Dallas Wings on Sunday. But Washington has lost nine of 11 games overall to fall into ninth place in the league standings.

The top eight teams in the league standings, regardless of conference, qualify for the playoffs. Washington trails the Seattle Storm by 1/2 game heading into Wednesday for the eighth and final playoff berth, but will have its hands full with Delle Donne and the Sky.

Chicago (15-13) has won four straight games and seven of eight overall to move into fourth place in the league standings with six games remaining in the regular season.

Delle Donne, the reigning MVP, is having another banner season. She leads the league in scoring, averaging 22.1 points per game, and is coming off a 35-point performance in a blowout win over the San Antonio Stars on Sunday.

The Sky have won the last seven meetings with the Mystics, including all three games this season and a two-game sweep in last year's postseason.

Washington's last win against Chicago came in June, 2015.

The teams battled in an overtime thriller in their last meeting, with Chicago guard Courtney Vandersloot hitting the game-winner with 4.6 seconds left. Delle Donne finished with 28 points in the 86-84 win. Washington guard Taylor Hill had a career-high 28 points in the loss.

Hill had 25 points in the Mystics' win over Dallas on Sunday. Washington trailed by two heading into the fourth quarter, but outscored the Wings 26-19 in the fourth quarter. Hill leads the team in scoring (15.7 points per game) and assists (2.8).

# 4 GOOD LAUGH 5/1

# 2 MORE THAN A IMAGE 7/5

# 1 SPECIAL DIVIDEND 1/1

GOOD LAUGH looks to be a very strong contender. Looks decent for the conditions of this contest today, showing solid numbers in dirt sprint races recently. With better than average trips to the winner's circle, Baez ought to have this filly in excellent position to win the contest. MORE THAN A IMAGE - Ought to be carefully examined based on the solid speed figure recorded in the last contest. Is a strong contender based on figures recorded recently under today's conditions. SPECIAL DIVIDEND - Her 69 average has this filly with among the strongest Equibase Speed Figures here. Could beat this group of horses in this race given the 79 Equibase speed fig posted in her last outing.

# 3 DESTINIES RIDE 6/1
# 1 DRY CREEK LIS 5/2

Look no further than ROCK IS SWEET as the bet in this one. The brain trust will always throw in a horse from the 4 post here at Hoosier Park, always worth a look. DESTINIES RIDE - Could very well be the most compelling in the field of starters here, showing really good numbers of late. Avg speed is a solid 65. More than likely the class of the group of horses with an average rating of 64. A nice pick. DRY CREEK LIS - More wins than you would expect have been achieved by interesting entrants lining up behind the 5 position at Hoosier Park.

# 2 RUFFLE UP 6/1
# 1 ROYALTYHASARRIVED 3/1
# 7 DAVID'S DREAM 6/1

Hey, listen up! RUFFLE UP is the smart wager if you like to win. Certainly did like this gelding's last race. Ran a strong 79 speed rating. Major player. Tough to pass on this gelding with experienced Hammer in the sulky. Major player for the score. The number crunching team always likes a proven player. This horse's high winning percentage is evidence of that. ROYALTYHASARRIVED - This race horse looks strong. Look at the 85 avg speed rating. With a 86 average class figure, this solid standardbred has one of the most competitive class edges in the field of horses. DAVID'S DREAM - This gelding has been performing against some of the most competitive company in this group of animals recently.

# 6 BLUE CHOICE 6/5

# 1 LAND ON IT 5/1

# 8 SHADAROVA 30/1

I think BLUE CHOICE is a strong choice. Should best this group of horses here, showing very good figures of late. Ought to be given a shot based on the very good Equibase Speed Figure posted in the last affair. Must be considered given the class of races run recently. LAND ON IT - He has to be given a chance given the decent speed figures. Keep this gelding in your exotics as Contreras has given backers some double digit dividends. SHADAROVA - Has to be given consideration for this event if only for the quite good speed figure earned in the last affair. Has to be considered a solid contender on earnings per start at the distance/surface alone.

Presque Isle Downs - Race #1 - Post: 5:25pm - Maiden Special - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $27,000 Class Rating: 70

Rating:

#6 YES IT'S ERIE (ML=2/1)
#5 LIL D (ML=10/1)

YES IT'S ERIE - This jock/trainer duo has been producing a high winning pct, right around 31. This pony coming off a nice effort in the last month is a serious competitor in my book. Possibly a peak effort for this filly today. Been getting closer with each recent start. LIL D - Lone speed horses can be tough to run down. Here's a lone speed freak facing sluggish sorts today. Ran against the males in her last race on August 22nd. A strong handicapping angle is the addition of Lasix for the 1st time. Puhl gives it to this one for this event.

Vulnerable Contenders: #3 SMOKIN'ANDDRINKIN (ML=5/2), #1 ALWAYS SATISFIED (ML=3/1), #2 COTTON EYE GEM (ML=6/1),

SMOKIN'ANDDRINKIN - Hasn't finished in the money in any sprint affairs lately. Not likely to see her doing it this time around either. Difficult to take this vulnerable equine at the odds after the finish (seventh) in the last event. ALWAYS SATISFIED - Earned a common rating last race out in a $25,000 Maiden Claiming race on August 7th. Unlikely to see an improved performance off of that fig. COTTON EYE GEM - I'm prognosticating a less than stellar try out of her this time out.

GUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - YES IT'S ERIE - Earnings per start is one measure of class I like to check out. This thoroughbred is tops in the field and has a good shot to beat this crew.

Northfield: Wednesday 9/7 Analysis + Pick Four Ticket
By Jeremey Day

DRF

Race 8 - $10,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

Jeremey’s $1 Pick Four Play:

1,2,6 / 3,4 / 5 / 2,4,7 = $18

Best Bet: KIRKTONS CREDIT (10th)

Spot Play: ST ELIAN’S FIRE (3rd)

Race 1

(5) MONTANA SKIES just missed last week at this level and should offer a better price. (1) WIND SURFER veteran trotter has made over 900k lifetime and is still capable of a big effort from time to time. (4) STAR CHIP has made the most money in the field on the year by far; threat.

Race 2

(1) LITTLE TIGER SCALE Indiana bred filly makes her first start for new connections with the best post. (2) RADIO LOVER three-year-old filly should be in a great spot to hit the board. (5) REAL SEXY LADY filly faces older but has room to improve.

Race 3

(6) ST ELIANS'S FIRE takes a huge drop in class. If the trotting mare can work out a trouble-free trip she's the horse to beat. (2) IGOTTOKEEPONMOVING doesn't own a win on the year but does get sent out for the top barn. (5) MOMA JEAN'S CROWN is very inconsistent week to week; command a price.

Race 4

(4) MR TOMMY FRA well bred stallion has turned it around in the second half of the season despite making a miscue on the fair track last week. (8) CMR WINDMACH needs some racing luck but has been pacing faster than most of the field. (7) ELOCUTIONIST picks back up the top driver who's always a threat.

Race 5

(5) FLIRTATIOUSLY should offer a bigger price than the morning line. The well bred filly is one of few threats in a weak field. (3) DAYTON ANGEL just missed at this level when last seen at this track. (2) YOUHADMEFROMHELLO has been in the mix two weeks in a row; threat.

Race 6

(7) BLACK DENIM N LACE 5-year-old mare comes into the race sharp; big chance. (1) STAR TREATMENT lightly raced four-year-old gets the best post off some encouraging efforts. (5) SPARTAN CAN-DO closed good ground against this same bunch last start.

Race 7

(2) BORN TO ROCKN ROLL paced a huge mile last week just missing. The pacer gets a big post edge on some of the other contenders. (1) HAWAII AND SUN went a sneaky good mile last out against better. (8) DIVULGE is capable of hitting the ticket with a good setup.

Race 8

(1) SAND SAVAGE went a big effort last start tiring just a bit late. (2) JIMMY RIP has put in two good efforts in a row. (6) STEVIE DIAMONDS beat a softer field last week but needs more to make it two straight.

Race 9

(3) SAND ROYAL BLU six-year-old trotter is the fastest in the field by far when he minds his manners. (4) PARNELL raced huge last week at this level; threat. (1) S M'S TERMINATOR just raced evenly last week from the same spot; use underneath.

Race 10

(5) KIRKTONS CREDIT set a lifetime mark last week winning by open lengths. (6) CYRANO JONES was also a romping winner last week. The pacer could be the only threat to the top choice. (4) FLIP IT ON picks up the top driver off a decent effort from a tough spot.

Race 11

(4) LIMA RITCH is very inconsistent week to week. The pacer usually offer a monster price and owns a decent burst of speed when timed right. (2) HICKORY TERRIFIC has just been racing evenly and looks to offer low value; use caution. (7) MORELAND FLASH showed a big burst of speed last week racing gamely.

Race 12

(2) BIG BOSSMAN set a lifetime mark last start impressively. The pacer jumps up quite a bit but can threaten with a similar effort. (6) BAD BUG picks up a huge driver change getting sent out for the top barn. (7) GIBBS doesn't win often but did race very well last week.

Race 13

In a weak and inconstant field, (3) THE PRICE YOU PAY has been competitive against better on the year. (5) WESTERN COBY pacer hasn't won a race in almost three years; use underneath. (1) J F COOKIN gets the best post in a field full of question marks.

Race 14

(4) MCCUTCHEN will be used very aggressively looking to drop and pop. (5) JK PATRIOT will look to make it two straight at this level; needs more. (9) TEST OF WILL might be the sleeper in the race with a good setup.

Race 15

(2) EWALD HANOVER five-year-old gets sent out first start off a layoff for capable connections. The pacer finds a suspect bunch and can score if ready. (1) JET SET STYLE gets the best post in a weak field. (9) RIDGE PARK has yet to win on the year but will offer value and could hit the ticket with a smooth trip.

Charles Town - Race #8 - Post: 10:15pm - Maiden Special - 7.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $23,000 Class Rating: 52

Rating:

#7 MEXICALI SUN (ML=3/1)

MEXICALI SUN - Last race was at Laurel in a race with a class number of 60. Dropping drastically in Equibase class figure this time out puts her in a solid position in today's race. Filly was in versus 'open company' on August 19th and should find this group easier to deal with. I look for this steed to sit chilly and make a strong move on the turn, cruising straight on to the winner's circle. That 52 fig this filly registered in her last event tells me she's a big time player today.

Vulnerable Contenders: #5 SOME SAY LOVE (ML=7/2), #4 MINNIE BALL (ML=9/2), #3 LE PRIX D'HONNEUR (ML=5/1),

SOME SAY LOVE - Today's race is 7 furlongs. Hasn't finished in the money in a sprint event in the last 60 days. Not the best of omens. MINNIE BALL - The Brain tells me to keep away from horses in sprint events that haven't hit the board in short distance races lately. This filly earned a fig in her last affair which probably isn't good enough in today's event. LE PRIX D'HONNEUR - This mount has not scored here today in 10 starts. Little chance she wins today.

GUEST COMMENTARY: The Brain - MEXICALI SUN - Has been racing regularly since a layoff. By my calculation, horses hit their peak cycle in their 3rd or 4th race back. Watch out for this horse right here.

MLB roundup: Cards rally in 9th to beat Pirates
By The Sports Xchange

PITTSBURGH -- The St. Louis Cardinals lost an early five-run lead but rallied with three two-out homers in the ninth Tuesday at PNC Park for a 9-7 win over the reeling Pittsburgh Pirates, who lost their eight straight.
Matt Carpenter hit a two-out, 0-2 solo home run to right-center in the ninth to forge a 6-6 tie -- establishing a major league record with St. Louis' 15th pinch-hit homer of the season. After Yadier Molina doubled, Randel Grichuk hit a two-run shot to left, and Jhonny Peralta followed with a homer to right to make it 9-6.
That was enough to withstand Jung Ho Kang's solo homer in the bottom of the ninth that made it 9-7.
All three Cardinals ninth-inning homers came off Pirates closer Tony Watson.

Brewers 12, Cubs 5
MILWAUKEE -- Wily Peralta worked into the eighth inning and Milwaukee collected 15 hits -- including home runs from Jonathan Villar and Ryan Braun -- in a drubbing of National League Central-leading Chicago at Miller Park.
Peralta allowed four runs on six hits and a walk while striking out six to earn his second victory since being brought back from Triple-A Colorado Springs on Aug. 9.
Hernan Perez finished with four hits while Jonathan Villar Domingo Santana had three each and Braun finished with a pair along with four RBIs.

Nationals 9, Braves 7
WASHINGTON -- Pinch-runner Michael A. Taylor scored the go-ahead run on an error in the last of the eighth and Washington broke a tie with three runs that inning to beat Atlanta.
The first-place Nationals remained 8 1/2 games ahead of the New York Mets in the National League East. The Braves lost for just the second time in eight games one day after being eliminated from postseason play. Atlanta is 2-13 against Washington this year.
The winning pitcher was Koda Glover, who retired his only two batters in the eighth, while Ramirez suffered the loss. Closer Mark Melancon pitched the ninth and recorded his ninth save while with the Nationals despite allowing an RBI single to Dansby Swanson.

Orioles 11, Rays 2
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Manny Machado hit a grand slam in the fourth inning, leading Baltimore over Tampa Bay at Tropicana Field.
The Orioles have won four of their last five and moved within one game of first-place Toronto, which lost 7-6 to the New York Yankees on Tuesday, in the American League East.
The Rays have dropped three straight as they close out a six-game homestand on Wednesday afternoon.

Mets 5, Reds 3
CINCINNATI -- Yoenis Cespedes hit a go-ahead two-run homer in seventh, one of four home runs hit by New York in a victory over Cincinnati at Great American Ball Park.
Jose Reyes, Curtis Granderson, and Alejandro De Aza also went deep for New York.
Adam Duvall hit his 30th home run of the season for Cincinnati, which has dropped 13 straight to the Mets dating to Sept. 7, 2014.

Astros 4, Indians 3
CLEVELAND -- Marwin Gonzalez's three-run home run off Corey Kluber in the second inning was the difference as Houston beat Cleveland at Progressive Field.
Kluber suffered his first loss since July 3. In 10 starts between losses he was 7-0 with a 1.94 ERA. Houston did all of its scoring in the second and third innings, but Kluber was otherwise very effective. He retired the last 10 men he faced.
In seven innings Kluber struck out nine, walked three and allowed four runs on four hits -- none of them singles. The home run by Gonzalez and an RBI triple by Alex Bregman accounted for all of the Astros' runs.

Yankees 7, Blue Jays 6
NEW YORK -- Didi Gregorius hit the game-tying triple and scored the go-ahead run on Starlin Castro's sacrifice fly in the eighth inning as New York held on for a victory over Toronto.
Gregorius, who had been in a 1-for-22 slump before his triple, helped give the Yankees their ninth win in 13 games. New York remained 3 1/2 games behind the Baltimore Orioles for the second wild card spot.
The Yankees added two crucial runs when Chase Headley hit a two-run homer into the right-center field bleachers.

Phillies 4, Marlins 3
MIAMI -- Adam Morgan snapped a nine-game losing streak and Odubel Herrera scored three runs to lead Philadelphia over Miami at Marlins Park.
Ichiro Suzuki pulled a two-run homer to right in the eighth inning to cut the Phillies' lead to 4-3. It was the first pinch-hit homer of a Suzuki career that includes more than 3,000 hits.
But the Marlins could get no closer, and Jeanmar Gomez worked around a walk and an error in the ninth to earn his 35th save of the season. He struck out Dee Gordon looking for the final out of the game.

White Sox 2, Tigers 0
CHICAGO -- Jose Abreu homered for the fifth time in seven games and Miguel Gonzalez pitched into the seventh inning in his first start since coming off the disabled list as Chicago beat Detroit.
Detroit put two on in the ninth. A replay review ruled that J.D. Martinez hit the ball foul rather than smacking his 21st home run to start the inning against David Robertson. Martinez reached on a single that narrowly beat the thrown from shortstop Tim Anderson. After striking out Justin Upton, Robertson walked Erick Aybar. Jarrod Saltalamacchia popped out and pinch hitter Tyler Collins struck out as Robertson earned his 34th save in 41 chances.
Chicago won just three of its last nine, but Detroit fell to 12-6 against the White Sox this season.

Royals 10, Twins 3
MINNEAPOLIS -- Kansas City scored seven runs in the ninth inning to break a tie game in a victory over Minnesota at Target Field.
The Royals loaded the bases with nobody out against Twins closer Brandon Kintzler before Drew Butera's one-out single through the hole between first and second scored the eventual winning run.
Two batters later, Paulo Orlando rolled a two-run single to right field, giving Kansas City a three-run lead.
Eric Hosmer followed with an RBI single before Kendrys Morales provided the final blow, a massive three-run blast into the bullpen in left-center field. It was the second home run of the night and third in two games for the former Twin, who knocked in five runs and has 25 homers this season.
Brian Dozier homered again for the Twins, his 25th since the All-Star break and seventh in September.

Giants 3, Rockies 2
DENVER -- Their offense was again marginal, but San Francisco scored an unearned run in the ninth to beat Colorado.
Buster Posey led off that inning and reached second base when shortstop Daniel Descalso fielded his routine grounder and threw the ball over first baseman Gerardo Parra. Hunter Pence put runners on the corners with an infield single off Adam Ottavino, hitting a slow chopper to Descalso and just beating his throw.
Boone Logan came on and struck out Brandon Crawford. But Kelby Tomlinson lined Logan's 0-2 fastball to left for single, scoring Posey.

A's 3, Angels 2
OAKLAND, Calif. -- Joey Wendle grounded a two-run single through a drawn-in infield to give Oakland the lead in a three-run eighth inning.
The Athletics overcame a strong pitching performance by Ricky Nolasco. Coming off a four-hit shutout of the Reds on Aug. 31, Nolasco retired the first 16 A's in order, and he took a shutout into the eighth inning.
Nolasco loaded the bases in the eighth. Mike Morin came on and allowed a bloop single to Ryon Healy that scored Oakland's first run. With the bases still loaded, Wendle's hard grounder eluded a backhand attempt by Angels first baseman C.J. Cron, scoring two.

Rangers 10, Mariners 7
SEATTLE -- Texas snapped a two-game losing streak with a win over Seattle.
Nine of the Rangers' 15 hits went for extra bases, including home runs from Jonathan Lucroy and Elvis Andrus. Lucroy hit the go-ahead homer, a two-run shot in the fifth, while Andrus had four hits, two RBIs and three runs for the Rangers.
Seattle second baseman Robinson Cano extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a seventh-inning single, but he was lifted for a pinch runner after what appeared to be a minor injury to his lower leg. Cano was smiling as he walked into the dugout, replaced by Ketel Marte.

Red Sox 5, Padres 1
SAN DIEGO -- Rebounding right-hander Clay Buchholz allowed one run over 6 2/3 innings as Boston defeated San Diego at Petco Park to move back into a tie for the American League East lead.
Jackie Bradley Jr. and Chris Young broke up a scoreless game with back-to-back homers in the fourth inning.
Boston's win, coupled with Toronto's loss to the Yankees in New York, leaves the Red Sox and Blue Jays tied with 77-61 records as they prepare to meet in a three-game series this weekend in Toronto. The Baltimore Orioles trail the AL East co-leaders by one game.

Dodgers 5, Diamondbacks 2
LOS ANGELES -- Five Los Angeles players drove in a run apiece in a win vs. Arizona at Dodger Stadium.
Justin Turner, pitcher Ross Stripling (who knocked in the go-ahead run), Yasmani Grandal, Josh Reddick and Andrew Toles each had an RBI for the Dodgers. Corey Seager and Turner collected two hits apiece.
Arizona lost for the fourth time in six games as Shelby Miller had another poor outing. He surrendered five runs (four earned) on 11 hits with two strikeouts and no walks in 4 1/3 innings. Miller has lost twice in three career starts against the Dodgers.
