There is a terrific piece on this month's edition regarding major league umpiring and replay technology. They engaged a professor from Yale to analyze the accuracy of balls and strikes called by the umpires. The results are rather disconcerting and thought provoking from a gambler's perspective. It's a worthy viewing if you have the opportunity.

Without having read it, I'm willing to wager (LOL) large amounts of capital that some umps perspective of the strike zone is much larger than others, hence when betting a total, I pay close attention to the ump's O/U record. Just a hunch mind you.

After every game the umps are given a disk showing all of the balls and strikes they called during a game. Some rather amazing statistics including the bias documented for the home team.
