Awesome concept.

People basically pay to visit a wild west town where all the inhabitants are robots made of flesh and blood. The robots have no idea what they really are or about the world they really live in. All they know is every day "newcomers" arrive in a train where they take part of this western town.

Only one episode so far but looks very good. Anthony Hopkins is great as the creator. Bad acting on the female character in charge.
Also Ed Harris is great as the bad guy.

HBO is in desperate need of new - good - shows.

I'm not a fan of watching a brand new show. I like to hear all the hype and wait until there's at least 3 seasons (so I can binge watch). I am guilty of watching a few new shows though (Narcos, Bloodline, and a few others).

I got a Kindle Fire and watch mostly while I'm on the treadmill. I run at least 30-45 miles a week on a treadmill, so that gives me a bunch of time to watch shows I've missed. I'm on Walking Dead now. Didn't think I'd like it, but it's pretty damn good (just finished Season 3, Episode 1).

It will be no Game of Thrones but it was interesting. New take on the old "artificial intelligence" question. Was pretty disappointed Evan Rachel Wood didn't show some skin.

I don't think HBO is in desperate need of good new shows. It's network tv that hasn't done anything significant in years.

Other than GOT what has HBO done?

Network:

Breaking Bad
Walking Dead
The Americans
Better Call Saul
Sons of Anarchy
Justified

I could go on and on....

OK I only consider CBS, ABC, NBC to be network. Anything on cable doesn't count.

For the person asking about Netflix, look at Stranger Things.

Also Bosch was a decent show on Amazon prime.

The Wire
Sopranos
Six Feet Under (highly underrated)
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Entourage
Eastbound & Down

I loved all of those

There are many others that I haven't seen that I've heard good things about like Silicon Valley, Veep, Big Love, etc

Their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip to be Square.

How could you leave out True Detective?

And Vice principals!

True Detective is more of a mini-series, Band of Brothers and the Night Of I thought were also great, but not really a tv show. 2nd season of True Detective was also ok at best.

I've heard Vice Principals is terrible.

Well, I think anything that is not a "pay" channel falls in that category. Lost is probably the last decent "network" show.

Lots of good HBO shows....but most of them are off the air. Also: Oz, Deadwood, Larry Sanders, etc.

Westworld is loosely based on the 1973 film by the same name starring Yul Brenner.
