[FONT=&quot][FONT=&quot]D[/FONT]aytime gambling adverts could be banned from social media and television as part of a crackdown on the industry, according to reports. [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]The reforms will be part of the Government's review into fixed odds betting terminals (FOBTs), which have become the focal point of growing political disquiet about betting shops on the high street.[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]A senior minister told The Times: “The gambling industry’s luck has run out.”

[FONT=&quot]The machines took £1.7 billion from gamblers last year and draw in huge tax revenues. A review into advertising rules was blocked by former Chancellor George Osborne.[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]It comes as the latest figures showed that the number of people with a severe gambling problem has almost doubled in three years.[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]Just over a quarter of complaints to the Advertising Standards Authority related to betting adverts.

[FONT=&quot]A source told the paper: “As it stands, betting sites can basically be advertising to children all weekend."[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]Sports Minister Tracey Crouch said last month: “The Government is committed to ensuring that people, particularly the young and vulnerable, are protected from the risk of gambling-related harm.[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]“We are keeping the issue of advertising under review to ensure that sufficient protections are in place, and will not hesitate to take further action if necessary.” [/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]Under current rules gambling firms can advertise during the breaks in live sporting events before the watershed at 9pm.[/FONT]
