He's 36-year-old and the Cards quarterback hasn’t looked like himself so far in 2016, as his passer rating of 81.9 is far below last season’s mark of 104.6. He even missed last Thursday night's game so he's coming off an extended break; as we refer to Carson Palmer. David Johnson, the Cards’ second-year rusher will face a Jets defensive unit that’s second in the NFL in both rushing yards allowed per game (68.4) and per carry (3.0).
Turnovers are on everybody's mind with the Jets QB, Ryan Fitzpatrick. His two game run of nine interceptions were broken down as five catchable and two tipped with two being poor passes. That is on the entire team, not just the QB even tho he gets slammed. For the Cardinals, the turnover scorecard is not great in their losses. The Cards turned the ball over five times apiece (10) in losses to the Bills and Rams. The Cardinals have lost three of their last four regular-season home games dating back to last season, and perhaps no other NFL coach (other than Bruce Arians) knows the inner workings of the Cardinals better than Jets Coach Bowles does. The Jets can’t defend against the deep ball, and the Cardinals can’t complete one. So will something give? Palmer continues to under throw the ball.
Maybe he's hanging on to long or being asked to throw deep routes too often. Maybe being 36 is too old. The Cardinals are missing their starting guards, Mike Iupati and Evan Mathis and will be missed. Cards cornerback Patrick Peterson will be matched up against receiver Brandon Marshall all evening, which should be fun to watch. The New York Jets, who have lost four of their first five games and could put themselves into an insurmountable hole with another defeat are desperately focused on Fitz to Marshall to move the chains while the Jets defense works magic on their end. New York’s only chance to pull off the upset might be to win a low-scoring affair. The Jets seemingly have the talent to be among the league’s top units, especially considering they finished fourth in total defense a year ago. Carson Palmer is no superstar that can take a team and lay over a touchdown. Palmer returns for the Cardinals after missing Week 5 with a concussion. He hasn’t played particularly well in 2016, going 1-3 as a starter and throwing four interceptions in Arizona’s Week 3 loss. Dating back to the NFC Championship Game, Palmer has thrown seven touchdowns and nine interceptions. If the Jets front line can get some pressure on Palmer and their linebackers can put the bang on RB David Johnson, the Jets could leave the desert with a cactus flower and a much needed win! But take the point as your backup plan. You'll get plenty.
