Using the DH

Against a team with 1 starter

Kinda odd no one will STFU about the Cubs not being able to hit after getting shut down in two games by Kershaw and Hill.

Maddon is overrated, Cubs are choking, blah blah blah blah

Just wanted to provide some perspective. :)

This is a very good point and I 100% agree. The only reason the Cubs are getting more attention is because of who they are, the special season they had, and how they were the favorites entering October. They've literally been the main focal storyline.

But what the Blue Jays just did?! Historically bad. Historically. A guy with 11 career innings before his start today. Another who perennially gets hit every year and is always amongst the league leaders in HRs allowed (Tomlin). Another lasts one or two batters because of a bizarre drone-related injury.

Toronto's lineup put up historically good numbers last year -- if I recall correctly, they had at least 100 more runs scored than any other team in 2015. Same lineup this year. And then against a severely banged up rotation, they score 8 combined runs. As said, historically bad and a historic choke job. I hope people focus on this more than the Cubs' struggles. What Toronto pulled off in this series is really special, in a negative way of course

Under also went 5-0 in this series. Who woulda thought that?

P.S. Anybody who calls Maddon overrated shouldnt be allowed to speak about baseball ever again. Period. Because, clearly, they are 1,000% clueless about baseball if they think that, nor did they ever pay attention to the miraculous work he did in Tampa. Luckily, I haven't really heard that "take" anywhere

Good luck to your Cubs, by the way

The difference is that the Blue Jays are like the Miami Dolphins. Nobody cares. The Cubs are going to be the story of MLB everyday all season long every year until they win one.

Understood and agreed. I'm just making the point that we have many here who get annoyed that the Cubs are so "overrated" and "over-hyped", when really what they are observing is that they're "over-covered". Good and bad.

Aren't most of the posters who constantly attack the Cubs, Cardinals fans? I would imagine that has something to do with it as well.

Nope it comes from all angles. Most agree they hate the Cubs because their fans are arrogant and their team is overrated. :think2:

Lol somewhat new, I had been lurking for a little while before I decided to finally submit my NFL picks to the forums (and help carry the forums in the process with my 9-3 start to the year in NFL betting :) )

Anyway, what that poster has there is an incredibly weak argument. How could getting THOSE Rays teams to the playoffs annually, LET ALONE TO A WORLD SERIES (aka the same Devil Rays that lost 100-110 games rvery year for a decade) not be considered enough? So what if he didn't win a World Series there? That's certainly not on him. Maddon got those teams to overachieve BIG time; the fact that they didn't win it all under his leadership really isn't a knock on him at all. He changed an entire culture and turned the franchise around for the first time in their history (literally, since they were perennial losers every year).

To me, actually, the most impressive job Maddon did was his final year in TB when they didn't even make the playoffs. 20+ games under .500 in early June 2014, the constant whispers and distractions of David Price being dealt, yet they continued to hang in there and hang in there, miraculously scratched and clawed into Wild Card contention and we're only a handful of games out. Price gets dealt anyway and they STILL remain in contention into the final weeks. That 2014 TB Rays season, believe it or not, is what sealed it for me that Maddon is indeed a future Hall of Fame manager.

Cant forget the job he did in 2013 either. Another year they were welllllll under the radar. Win a tiebreaker game the day after the regular season in Texas just to get into the Wild Card Game. Travel to Cleveland two days later and beat Danny Salazar (of note, this was Francona's first year in CLE)

Ugh it makes my head hurt. Maddon is amazing and no other opinion is acceptable. Not even an argument. If these idiots are complaining how Maddon was "handed a team full of All Stars" (not true also), then where were their huge bets on Cubs Over 82.5 Wins last year????

Harry, it's not even worth arguing in that thread. They have zero clue what they're taking about

Haha thank you. And very good point, his MOTY Awards certainly have to be emphasized as well.

Game's about to start so good luck, rooting for them

And again, any idiot that says Maddon "was handed a team full of All Stars"... you simply can't say that if you didn't bet Cubs Over 83 Wins last year. Period. Because if that was the case, you obviously would've loaded up your life savings and be on some yaht right now. But nope, those people didn't bet it, because it wasn't that simple. Come to think of it, even most experts didn't have the Cubs ending their former postseason drought and making the playoffs last year!

Don't laugh but I stopped rooting for the Jays when I saw all the idiots protesting against the Indians and their mascot. Fuck everyone with their so called political correct bullshit. While we are talking, the phrase is illegal alien, what is this undocumented immigrant bs?

Lol a little off topic but I agree with ya. Can't stand this anti-Redskins/Indians BS that ONLY came up in the past few years. Never in the 2000's, 90's, 80's, 70's, 60's etc. ... lets not even give attention to it lol
