The 5-1 Dallas Cowboys got their bye week off to a terrific but expensive start by racking up a nearly $55,000 tab at a Dallas steakhouse. The team event, tabbed as the annual edition of the “Rookie Dinner,” an NFL tradition where first-year players are tasked with footing typically enormous tabs, was held at Nick and Sam’s Steakhouse, one of Tony Romo’s favorite establishments.

CowboysHQ.com’s Mike Fisher documented evidence of the stupefying dinner bill on Twitter.

Yep, that reads $54,494.59. Mercy.

Cowboys team captain Barry Church revealed some details of the outing, one he noted was unique in that it was the first time he can remember where both the offensive and defensive players attended the same dinner.

“Yeah,” the whole team was there, and it was amazing,” Church said. “The rookies took care of everything. We had an amazing time.”
Wide receiver Dez Bryant, who previously has railed against the notion of rookie hazing in any form, disputed the notion the rookies had to foot the entire bill.

“Nope, because as far as I know, lots of the guys just paid for themselves,” Bryant said. “Nobody getting punished. Everybody together.”
It sounds like a grand time was had by one and all. And a great way to build team unity and player camaraderie heading into the team’s bye week.

And if the rookies weren’t on the hook for the entire bill? So much the better. At least for them.

There's 53 on the active roster and 10 on the practice squad. That's about $900 a person. That's out of my price range...man.
