I remember the 1945 world series well; We kids listened to the game(s) on the radio (no TV back then). World War ll had just ended in August and everybody was in the mood for some normalcy and good, old-fashion, baseball. A lot of the young players were in the military from 1941-45. There was talk of cancelling baseball during the war years but President Roosevelt felt it was important to keep the morale high on the home-front so they played. A lot of the rosters were filled old has-beens but "play-ball" they did.

The 1945 Cubs had several decent players, 1st baseman Phil Caveretta, Stan Hack at 3rd, and pitchers, Claude Passau and Hank Borowy; the Tigers had the better pitching staff led by rookie Hal Newhouser, Virgil "fireball" Trucks, and "Dizzy" Troudt; Their slugger was Hank Greenberg. Of course, we all know the Tigers won it in (7) games and the Chicago Cubs have never come close during the following 71 years.

The 1945 series game format was not the usual 2-3-2 scheduling....they played 3 games and then 4 (if needed) to save the cost of travel which was done by train from Chicago to Detroit. FYI: The winning players share for (Detroit) was approximately $6,500 and the losers share (Cubs) was $3,500.

Maybe this years Cubs can get rid of that "Gremlin" (once and for all); They got off to a bad start last night....damn.

The Cubbies gave that "gremlin" a good kick in the ass last night.....Just maybe this is the year he will be vanquished once and for all.
Game (3) in Wrigley.....Temperature in the low 60's.....not bad for this time of the year.

I hear cubs fans are paying up to $250 just to get in a bar around Wrigley. Dumb idiots. I hope Cleveland breaks their hearts.

They sure are. When you are a die hard Cubby fan, they will spend the $. If they have the $ to do so, and want to enjoy it around a ton of other people, then why not? I don't think it's dumb for the bar Owners, they are banking off of these 3 games this weekend. Should be a great game and hoping to see plenty of runs!!!

That nasty "gremlin" was still flickering in the rafters at the Wrigley ball park last night; Damn; Just when the Cubs gave it a good shove in game (2) in Cleveland, he reappeared in game (3). The Cubs are still a good baseball team but that damn "jinx" is still hanging around.

From a betting angle, -240 is a lot of chalk to lay when that "Gremlin" is still in the rafters....damn. The Cubbies need to come-out slugging....

It's "crunch time" for the Cubbies: The current line is -145 as a road favorite (Arietta on the mound).......We'll see if Chicago can get rid of that Gremlin that is still looming/lurking in the stadium rafters.....damn, they need a win tonight....The Cubs laying the chalk for me. (1unit) =$100 U.S.D.
