The Dallas Cowboys hit the jackpot when they selected Dak Prescott in the fourth round of the NFL Draft.

The rookie quarterback opened his career by breaking Tom Brady’s record for most consecutive passes to start a career without an interception. Now he has the Cowboys at 6-1 and is showing all the signs of a franchise quarterback. He’s been so good that Cowboys VP Stephen Jones says he doesn’t think the team would trade Prescott for anybody.

“Obviously with where we sit today and the job that Dak’s doing, I don’t know that we would trade him for anybody, including all the quarterbacks picked at the top of the draft,” Stephen Jones told the Dallas Morning News’ Jon Machota. “We’re certainly optimistic about what his future holds.”

For as good as Prescott has been, the reality is the Cowboys did get a little lucky with the pick. After all, if they knew the former Mississippi State QB would be as good as he’s turned out to be, they wouldn’t have passed on him for the first three rounds of the draft. But they got him anyhow, and now he is giving them even more than they had with Tony Romo under center.

Based on the way he has played so far, Prescott should have been the No. 1 pick in the draft and is certainly in the debate for best young player in football. The Cowboys would be foolish to consider trading him.
