Clinton also was ahead in the suburban collar counties of Lake, Kane and DuPage and Will. Trump led in McHenry County.
Trump was on pace to win all but about 10 of the state's 102 counties, including almost all of Downstate. Clinton, however, did hold leads in Downstate Champaign, Peoria, Rock Island and Winnebago counties, many of which are home to college campuses or have larger cities.
