The Carolina Panthers defeated their division rival Saints on Thursday Night Football. Now they have won three of their last four and the defense has made great strides since their early season struggles. The Panthers will likely need to win the NFC South to secure a playoff spot. As they sit at 4-6 and two games behind the Falcons, it is possible. So let's look at the remaining schedule. Carolina makes two west coast trips with Oakland and Seattle. Then they come home to play San Diego, and that is followed by a trip to DC. The final two games are division games as the Falcons come to Charlotte, and the Panthers travel to Tampa week 17.
The remaining schedule looks fairly difficult, but we have seen Rivera teams play well at the end of the season. And the defense seems to have some 2015 swagger back, so Carolina can easily be in each of these games. Of course, since they are chasing Atlanta the Cats need some help. Atlanta has a bye this week, and then they take on the Cardinals and Chiefs in Atlanta. Then they close the season with games against the Rams, 49ers, Panthers and Saints.
The loss to Kansas City has to sting even more knowing Carolina could be only a game behind Atlanta. Another key factor impacting the Panthers' chances are injuries. With more than one starting offensive lineman out, the Panther offense has struggled to match the continuity shown during the SuperBowl season. Plus star linebacker Kuechly went down last night and possibly suffered a concussion. So let's see if the Panthers can fight off the "SuperBowl Hangover" and make a playoff push.
