Lions coach Jim Caldwell wants the NFL to review the play on Monday night in which rookie defensive tackle A'Shawn Robinson was flagged for unnecessary roughness for tackling Ezekiel Elliott."I saw it happen out there.I didn't think it was a penalty. I don't think it was a penalty today," Caldwell told reporters Tuesday.

While officials thought the rookie from Alabama went too far in picking up Elliott and driving him to the ground, many who saw the play thought it was a clean, albeit hard, tackle.

Today's @NFL this is a 15 yard penalty.

Remind me to never upset @AshawnRobinson for Detroit. He's scary...

Yet Caldwell did not want to dwell on the questionable penalty Tuesday. He said he preferred to follow league "protocol" when teams have issues with officiating — which is to file a formal complaint — "rather than complain about things that, really, to me, that borders in on starting to worm in on excuse-making, which I don't want to have any part of."

Referee John Hussey compounded matters when he incorrectly stated Robinson's action occurred after the play, and that Robinson had been flagged for "unnecessarily throwing a player to the ground" —what many would simply call a tackle.

It turned out to be a costly penalty. Elliott was stopped for no gain, but instead of having second-and-10 at the Lions 40, Dallas picked up a first down at Detroit's 25-yard line. The Cowboys scored two plays later on a trick play, a 10-yard pass from Dez Bryant to Jason Witten en route to a 42-21 victory.

Bad call? Absolutely but if I were Caldwell I'd be spending my
time preparing for the upcoming Green Bay game instead of wasting
time on a call he can't do anything about.

Every time the camera shows him on the sideline I swear he looks comatose.
