Wanted to do one point spread competition for the NFL playoffs this year.

The rules for this one are pretty simple.

There are 11 games, making for 22 potential total spread bets (side and total).

Throughout the playoffs each player gets exactly the following:
  • Eight (8) passes
  • Eight (8) 1* plays
  • Four (4) 2*plays
  • Two (2) 4* plays

I will post the lines, which will be the Heritage line 72 hours prior to kick for each game. Picks can be PM'ed to me and will be released upon kickoff of each game.

If you do not send in any pick for a game, you took 2 passes (one pass on side and one pass on total). If you are out of passes, you will receive losses for each pass you didn't have. The loss will be at the smallest play level you have remaining. For example, if a player has already used 8 passes, and has one remaining 1* play and two remaining 2* plays, and they don't post for a game - they will take a 1* loss (extinguishing their last 1* play) and a 2* loss.

Highest units wins. The best a player can possibly do is +24 units.

All plays will be at -110, e.g. risking 4.4* to win 4*.

I will track remaining play counts - how many of each type each player has left - and post those (along with standings, and max final score) when I post the lines.

$100 entry fee and payout via PP (or alternate means can be discussed if you need to arrange that).

Total points in SB will be tiebreaker.

Payouts:
< 10 players -- winner take all
10-19 players -- 70/30
20-29 players -- 65/25/10
30-39 players -- 55/25/15/5

Let's do it.

Would prefer that postings be public until the Championship game to eliminate any deadline shenanigans. Just to be clear, what is the deadline? There are likely to be Sat and Sun games, early and late. Must all weekend picks be on the same PM (or posting) ?

Will need to send you money. No PP here.

My thought was people could PM or email their picks to me. Deadline would be maybe 30 minutes before kick. I would then make all picks public ~5 minutes before kickoff. This would avoid any questions about deadline issues or collusion. It won't take me long to turn the picks around, I'll have a little system set up for myself that will make entry and posting easy. Unless we got up to like 50+ people, which I don't anticipate.

Picks for one day do not necessarily need to be in on one message/email/post (although they can be), so long as deadline is met for each individual game.

The real problem I see is that everyone will have to be OK with me being able to "consider" their picks before I make mine, which could theoretically make a big difference for the SB. If I am ahead of you by 1 unit and we have the same remaining pick levels available, I can just mirror your picks and block you out. So at the end we will have to set something up where anyone in the running PM's their SB picks to a trusted but uninterested 3rd party.

If that doesn't fly I guess I won't be able to participate in this pool, which is not the end of the world either. I can just organize it/run it.

To clarify, I don't want to make it sound as if I'm opposed to public posting of plays up until the Super Bowl. I'm also fine with that.

Participate Harry. I like your third party suggestion (assuming you are in the running for the $$$). Just not crazy about you (or anyone) having access to picks that you could share with others. That's why I suggested a public posting, at least for the first two rounds.

That's it from me. I'll abide by whatever you finalize.

Sounds good, we will hammer out all the nitty gritty as it approaches. I'm perfectly fine with public posting through the divisional round.
