SBS Tournament of Champions:

Outrights:

Pat Perez(80/1) e.w.
- - After scoring with Perez at 125/1 e.w. at the OHL Classic last November, it’s fair to say I’ve been waiting eight weeks to ride the same pony again. As I posted after that victory:

Pat Perez made frequent appearances during the Las Vegas coverage (the week before) on his way to a Top Ten finish. Everything I heard mentioned during the coverage “more than suggested” that Perez was “in a really, really good place” with his life and with his game, validated the whole time with some impeccable play and demeanor. My decision that Perez would be carrying my cash in his next event was almost immediate

While the case can be made that better opportunities will come elsewhere on the West Coast swing, Perez will carry my cash whenever he tees it up on this swing, regardless of results or prices (although the price this week seemed quite generous).

Brandt Snedeker(20/1) e.w.
Aaron Baddeley(90/1) e.w.

- - After speculating on players that could be focused and prepared to try and kick-start a strong season, and screening for some respectable efforts at the unique Kapalua (and looking to supplement those parameters with (1) favorable propensities anywhere in Hawaii or on grainy Bermuda, or when the breeze is up, or (2) some twitter or media confirmation of their immediate mindset; but (3) not worrying too much about odds or value), Snedeker ticked lots of boxes and seemed fair value to boot. Baddeley is lacking in Kapalua form and opportunities, so that selection merely qualifies as speculation.

Sony Open:

Outrights:

Pat Perez(40/1) e.w.
- - Waialae much better fit IMO than Kapalua, but I much prefer the 80/1 in a small field last week.

Zach Johnson(50/1) e.w.
- - I know he loves Hawaii (who doesn’t?), needs to arrive with some focus on big goals off of last season.

Stewart Cink(125/1) e.w.
Chad Campbell(200/1) e.w.

- - Like Colonial, Harbour Town, etc., for valedictory efforts.

Zac Blair(125/1) e.w.
- - I loved his challenge last year and had him tabbed for strong consideration, although I didn’t remember he was right there in 2015, also.

Jimmy Walker(20/1) e.w.
- - I need another play based on what I saw last week. Seems a decent spot for buttoning up his putting, as he needs to do.

Cameron Smith(125/1) e.w.
Seamus Power(250/1) e.w.

- - I've had some success in this event, although none I can recall recently, still tooooo many plays, whether this early in the season or anytime, but looking for some long-term profitability by researching, pulling the trigger, and then keeping an eye on the new and the returning crop of talent.

Charles Howell III(45/1) e.w.
- - I sort of wonder how many times anyone outside the Top Ten in the World Rankings has had course form that is comparable to CHIII at Waialae.

Colt Knost(300/1) e.w.
- - Showed a spark than didn’t ignite last year, needs an improved short game, here and everywhere.

Harold Varner III(80/1) e.w.
- - Another play? Crash and burn.

- - Scored big in this event last year with Marcus Fraser, expecting no such windfall again.

Justin Rose(22/1) e.w.
- - Was not just on my short list, but was pretty much a play this week at pretty much any venue at pretty much any price. The venue may not be perfect, but suits far more than for most of the market leaders.

Zach Johnson(70/1) e.w.
- - Like his wedge play as much as any game component as a match for the venue.

Emiliano Grillo(80/1) e.w.
- - Last week showed me he is not in a rich vein, and don't think his short game is good enough this week, but he was on my short list and the price appeals.

Jason Dufner(80/1) e.w.
- - Tracking his pretty encouraging play in some areas, not so encouraging in other areas. Seems close to popping. Oak Hill.

Pat Perez(100/1) e.w.
- - Doubt he has the patience for this track. Oh, well.

Francesco Molinari(66/1) e.w.
- - Must have a better chance than often, and a better chance than many.
