i have been thinking that as i get older and feel myself slowing down, maybe i should just go for a package deal with flight and hotel instead of taking the free rooms and having to play to the casinos standards just to most likely lose more money than you would rather than go where you want, when you want and do what you want and have fun by not worrying if you met your quota for the day gambling for the silly and scarce comps they give anymore.I just don't think its worth it anymore in vegas as it used to be

Good point...

I just got back from a Harrah's prop....10 days ago in Joliet... (was in LV in July, again Harrah prop)...

thought almost the same thing....anyway...

my go to now has been FOUR WINDS...New Buffalo...5 yrs in ...I get a lot for free ( rooms, etc.)...and no hassles...

comps still roll in ...even if I have not be there in a while...I'm not a ""High Roller""

not to mention 1 hour and change to drive there...( no Airport BS)...

Take the comp rooms until they stop comping.......play however and whenever you like. I recently low played at the Golden Nugget and I sent my host an email letting her know that I spent a lot of time on the strip with friends that trip and that I will make it up to her on the next trip. Her reply was that I could have slow plays the next 17 trips and she would still like me to stay down town at the nugget. I am by no means a high roller.....my bankroll is 15 to 20k. Moral of the story.....take what they give ya until they, not you, decide enough is enough.

I don't know,i could save a lot of money if I went with a package deal. I don't even know what a lounge looks like, that's how long it's been since I just went and relaxed and listened to live music.there are a lot of things that I would like to do but I have it in my head that I have to gamble to cover my comps and I only go out one or two times a year so I really think it's not worth it for me to play for the comps.

ill just wait for a few more replies and then make a decision

Personally I think you are selling yourself short. If they are offering you free rooms, you take them. Your prior play earned them not your future play. Never feel that you are obligated to play "x" to cover your comps. If they want you, they keep comping. Until that well dries out, you keep taking what they offer.

The big misconception guys have is that they think they have to bet x dollars to satisfy some suit or skirt sitting in a posh office. That's further from the truth these days. What they want is hours played more than anything. It's not even about losing either, it's all about duration.

Anyway most package deals are overpriced. Take the comps !!!!

Always nice to have no pressure when on Vacation.

I've always said, DON'T try to play for Comps. They will come to you.
it is true what HotPizza said, except they do care a little about the dollar amount ( it's somewhere at 15% ) But the main formula is Time.
Which makes sense because the longer you Play, the better chance you have of LOSING.

Every Casino is different in their own way. and each Player is different as well.
As I have said many times, 95% of the time I go to the Mirage which is a MGM property. They like you to play only at their properties, because even though you
won't have the same Host going to different MGM places, they know and count all of your play.
This helps with Marketing and will get you more comps. Comps that your Host won't offer you.

Avg. play they want is 4 Hours. some places even want 4-6 Hours
Since I'm a Craps player, they NEVER get that time.
I'm not a "High" roller, but I'm up there... but I tell my host , you're not getting that time because I can get Killed in less than half that time.
They understand and know the deal.

Anyway this is what you should do. If you are a $50 per hand player. Go down to $25
Set a bankroll in your head and say I'm here for 3 days and have $1000 to play with. So that's $333 a day
Buy in for that amount each day, if it lasts an hour or lasts for 3 hours, that's your budget for the day.

My other "Rule" I have is that I Only gamble at Night.
there has been a hand full of times I played before Dinner, but it's Rare... probably less than 10 times in my life.
If I have Dinner and show plans, I play After

as far as package deals ... some are a Joke because they give you the worst rooms. BUT you can try to get your Host to upgrade the room.
Nothing major, but a slightly better room. or you can ask at the desk
Of course if you plan on playing, use your card. then you will get Food comps. But there's nothing they can do for you with the room, because you didn't
book it through the casino.

Going back to comps, you need a personal relationship with your host. That always helps.
Learn what they like, maybe bring them something, like a small gift.
Hey Bob, I remember you telling me that you are a bruce springsteen fan. i went to a concert last month and picked you up a T-Shirt.
That stuff goes a long way...

I went out to the coast and got a bunch of oysters for my host in Reno. He had a big bbq for his family. He was so stoked ! I got invited to every crab feed and event after that. Came back in spades !

I will use my comps till they run dry... And won't think twice about how much I play..Once the comps are done, I will figure out other ideas.. I'm taking a break from Vegas for awhile anyway after this upcoming trip so it doesn't matter...

HOT PIZZA,you have a good point there in the upcoming comps are already earned and i should just worry about now and not the future. There are some good package deals though as it makes a difference in my airfare when you look and combine the room with it and then you can play carefree.

BAS,.You are right not to play for comps and i tend to forget that. They do care as you say about the dollar amount you play. You mention about staying at the Mirage and that it don't matter which property you go to as long as its a MGM property, your comps add up.

Now that's what i assumed with the Boyd properties, but they want you to play at the casino you are staying at to get the full tally. If you go to play at one of their other properties it no longer shows for the casino you are staying at and it goes towards that one you are playing in at the time, now it may add up overall but the next time you book your stay at that same casino they come up with, hey you stayed here last time and went and played at one of our other places so why didn't you just stay there instead,'I'm like,"What the fuck",..i just found this stuff out like 2 trips ago.

The bankroll setting is something i always try to keep to,but i don't count my sports wagering in with that bankroll so sometimes it goes over.I am getting to the point as i get older and slowing down that i will gamble less and try to plan other activities to fill my day up.That is what i did on my last trip, and it felt good to be at a show and at Red Rock Canyon for a few hours of the day and not in the casino all of my time.

REDEYE,,I'm going to follow your using the comps til they run dry concept and just play the amount i want on whatever i'm playing.Like you say,we can always figure out something else when the time comes.

As you know i'm also starting to take breaks from Vegas as i'm going to Orlando next month, for one to get away from this bitter cold for a while, and for some new scenery and something different to do,so ill already be missing March Madness and only going out in September like always

RED,let me know again when you are heading to vegas as i forgot what you told me,..thanks

Heading out on Saturday..till Wednesday..if you need anything , let me know...going to add something to the thread..I have always found I can do better by shopping my flight and rooms seperatly... seems to me you can beat that package deal..might be different for a east coast guy..I've been getting flights from Portland thru Spirit for under $100 on a consistent basis.. doubt if I can do better thru a package

hahahahahaha......now now. Dont make me nickname you CNNshdw01. 20k bankroll doesn't get me much more than corporate mailers from Aria and Cosmo. Certainly well below high roller status

im a table games supervisor, I see so many people losing hundreds or thousands of dollars just trying to earn some more tier credits or comps. I would never play for any of that shit. Play for how long you want and how much the table allows. If its going good keep playing, but if it sucks get out, don't keep throwing money at it. If your winning in a short time span, you can pay for your own room, but why turn $100 hotel room into a $1000 hotel room just so it can be "free".

my bottom line is ask the floor what they have you rated at and for how long. Talk to them nicely about it and they will probably take care of you. A positive attitude and betting for the dealers helps you more than you think. I can't stand every time i come to a table and john doe wants to let me know they bet $50 last hand and to bump up their average when they have been sitting there for an hr betting $5 a hand the other 20 times i walked by.

I've seen a change at the Silverton and Sam"s Town regarding comps. 5 years ago I was a high roller at both places and got everything I wanted at either place. Since I haven't been there in almost 5 years, they both want me to start all over again and make my mark. To a degree I don't mind since they're going to see thee same action that they've seen before.

i don't understand why these places, and ones people have mentioned,(sam's town, silverton, orleans, etc)offer you 2 free nights when they know your from far away just by looking at your information on the computer and that you will be there at least a week. Why not just give you the amount of nights that you are going to be there and that's it.

Kidman, this is something im sure you can answer i think

alot of people prefer shorter trips, esp if its not a huge destination location with lots of things to do besides gambling. I also think its a tactic to get you in the door and tell you other rooms can be comp'ed or discounted based off play on the trip (hoping you pay for your room 5x or 10x at the table). Another reason is, your rate of play might just not warrant all that free shit. You might be quasi high roller in midwest buying in $1000 2-3 times a week, but out in vegas you are nothing special. At my casino they want to start to know plus or minus $5k on a guest, you start getting about $20k and pit managers will be letting their bosses know. cash drop for table games on a good night is around 500k, then see what the hold % is.
