Wedding Tasting Ettique question

My fiance and I are going to do our food tasting at our venue in 10 days to select our menu for the wedding. Is it custom to tip during this, if so how much or is built in to the cost in your mind. I would feel bad if the waitress or bar tender of the country club was running our food and I didn't tip her anything, but if its the event coordinator bring our dishes and talk to us about it, feels a little weird tipping this day.

also the day of the wedding, there are already upcharges and taxes because its considered an entertainment venue, so it gets taxed at a higher rate and has staff charges built in, should we tip extra the day of for waiters, busers, cooks etc????

I can't believe people take the time to taste food that's going to be at their wedding. I know it's a woman thing Kidman but damn, pick a place you like and tell them to prepare food for XYZ number of people. Done.

interesting question, is the service charge included in the price?

we when attended one for our son, they really had stations with the different choices, so there was no real service

since its a full country club, you have to use their food and bar service, no outside vendors

were paying a 20% surcharge on food and beverage, off our estimates based on #s and packages we picked, thats a little over $1200 right now

does that 20% represent your tip? do you actually have table service at the tasting?

im not exactly sure how the tasting is going to go, as I've never done one before. as for the wedding day its going to be buffet style. 2 proteins, 3 sides, salad, dessert etc. Id imagine some items are going to be set out in bulk and restocked, while other items like salad and dessert will be brought out to you. then you will have people busing tables, refilling non alcoholic drinks etc

What's the point in tasting then? If you want say pork tenderloin and they suck at preparing pork tenderloin, what choice do you have?

I know right! Weddings, lol. Glad I never have to go through one of these rip-off messes...

My suggestion as a person who is in the business is to Tip above and beyond the 20% which is most likely going to the servers and Bartenders the day of the wedding. Tip the Floor Captain, Banquet Manager, Lead bartenders, Chef etc. And give it to them Prior to the event, this way they will make sure things go above and beyond what you had hoped for on that day.

On a Side note, surprised they are charging you for the tasting...Should be the cost of doing business for your wedding, One meal makes no difference to there margins when you are having a wedding in terms of cost

tastings are typically rather informal,, and served by the chef themself,,, so no tip,,,

however if your not sure, you do have a wedding coordinater, and that individual should have the couth to steer you properly,,

they arent charging us for the tasting, just didnt know if it was customary to tip at a tasting or not. as for why do a tasting, its to select your menu, so you get to sample various meats/sides and decide what you want to have at the wedding
