Dallas had just made a first down on the GB-40. Instead of letting the clock run and maybe wasting 20 sec trying to make more yards on 1st down, they spiked the ball to stop the clock. That would have been 20 seconds less for Rodgers to march down the field. That one extra play could had been used to attempt a TD pass on 1st down.

GB has the ball and the Dallas played man to man defense preventing GB from advancing. On 3rd down Dallas decided to go zone and that's when Rodgers completed the 36 yds which eventually resulted in winning FG. 3rd and long, stick with man to man and it would be harder for the QB to make a long completion.

Dumb ASS coaching!!

In addition they wasted a down and should have been going for a TD. Never understand why teams with defenses on the run Spike the fucking ball. Having said all that, I had GB so it didn't matter much to me.

In the last second only? Haha

They let their 1600 yard running back, who averaged over 5 yards per carry and was pretty much unstoppable, touch the ball 22 times and called pass plays 37 times. It's no surprise, though they did it all year and I said they'd do it today in a different thread.

agree ...........less than 4 yards in the 35 yard range, and you have a running back that average 5 yard per carry, give him the ball 2 times get the first down and you can control the ball , the clock too ( has to known that your defense shit the bed all the game )

the spike was horrific. Although on current form, Rodgers would have prolly won in OT anyways

Dak threw the worst WR screen I've ever seen. No velocity on that pass. Hyde had all day to make that play

And don't forget they came out passing in the 1st quarter when they should have pounding the run. Elliot is like Bell, a weapon to be used often and early. The 21-3 1H deficit also cost them the game.

Or.......maybe their defense wasn't good enough to stop Aaron Rodgers. There's a novel idea.

Defense Not good enough to stop Rodgers? G Bay scored a total of 7 points in the second half until the 2-1 FG fest at the end.

Regarding the dipshit Dallas coach. A quick seminar on no 12 men on the field and no 12 men in the huddle and Dallas would have been ahead at halftime. Maybe try to sneak that concept in during the pre-game meeting. Maybe the coaching staff was waiting until just before the Super Bowl to teach that basic rule.

In case you didn't notice, there are 60 minutes in a football game

I don't think stopping the clock was an issue, since they still had a good chance to win in regulation. I think wasting a down was a bigger issue, essentially meaning they were more likely to have to kick a long field goal than getting another first down and trying to take the lead

I agree that the spike was really dumb. I didn’t understand the thinking there at all.

What I think was just as bad was the play call on 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] & 4. They call a pass play and it gets batted down. You have to rush the ball there. You have to. You get a little closer for the FG, the 1[SUP]st[/SUP] down, clock runs and/or GB uses a time out. That was just stupid.

One other thing that turned out to really hurt Dallas was the series just before the half. Here is the play by play:

1st&10 at GB 15
(1:19) Dak Prescott incomplete pass to the middle intended for Jason Witten.

2nd&10 at GB 15
(1:14) Dak Prescott incomplete pass to the left intended for Jason Witten.

3rd&10 at GB 15
(1:08) Dak Prescott incomplete pass to the middle intended for Jason Witten defensed by Joe Thomas.

4th&10 at GB 15
(1:03) Dan Bailey 33 yard field goal attempt is GOOD. Holder: Chris Jones. (GB 21-13)

No rushes at all. No short passes, all of them to the end zone and can't get it to 21-17.

Terrible.
