Did anyone catch that Papa John's commercial at the end of the Dallas/GB that featured Antonio Brown and Malcolm Butler competing against each other off the field and then on (AB beating Malcolm for a TD). How did Papa John know to match those two up before the KC/Pittsburgh game started. I'll tell you how, they knew who was going to win that game before it was played. That commercial was suppose to be release after the KC/Pittsburgh game, and it would have if the game was still the early game, but the NFL changed the game time from 1:00 to 8:30. The NFL forgot to remind the networks to change the time to run that commercial. So seeing that I changed my bet from KC to Pittsburgh. The NFL is fixed!!!

I was going to suggest they filmed different versions of the commercial, and aired the one that mattered still

But this would kill that thought

The whole season is scripted.... they knew before the season started.
who is going to be in the SB. The owners sit at a table and they figure it out...

They go over the script each week. Whenever we get to much money one way... the call goes out. Fix the game...

It a movie script. A show that they practice all week for...

I never use to think games were fixed but the more I watch the more I start to believe..

A billion dollar industry does not leave its profit up to chance on a coin flip. The Networks wouldnt pay billions of dollars a year for blow out after blowout, or games wher eeach team can only score 3-6 points. they do what it takes to get the ratings up. The ratings are down but they will do something else to get them back up.

I believe parity is an illusion. If you actually let the teams play real football with no outside influence, you would see complete domination by the big market teams. Since its all profit sharing the owners of the Browns and Jags dont care one way or another if they win or lose. Get a team in the SB that makes them all the most money. I will never be convinced that we are watching 2 even teams on the field where anything can happen. I believe we are watching what someone wants to happen. Just my opinion.

High priced entertainment with over-paid actors......The NFL is riding high with all that TV money if they can keep the ratings-up...no small task.

Anything dealing with money has the potential to be fixed. NFL is classified as entertainment just like wrestling. We all know that wrestling is real....

I once was contracted by an ad agency (I write for a living). That commercial was probably created by some hipster, in an office, 8 months ago.

Certainlly when money is involved there is the risk that organized crime will intervene, use coercion etc... try to fuck with shit. But people suggesting the NFL are fixing games are not rationally considering the economics of the situation. The NFL gets 10 b in annual revenue and the TV deals are locked in until 2021. They want high ratings, but think of how many times unsexy team's win in the playoffs -- why didn't the NFL stop Rex Grossman from winning in 2006? A fixing scandal, if leaked, would be a crisis of existential proportions. There is no way they could do it, involve all the people they need to (refs, for instance) without risking a leak.

It is not going to happen. Not when they have billions at stake... the minor upside is not worth the risk of being caught. This is some Flat Earth stuff ;)

Why would big-market teams win -- the NFL shares all its broadcast revenue and has a salary cap! Further, the billions are not at "stake," so much as "assurred," since they have contracts with the networks through 2021. They only way they won't cash those checks if they did something so stupid as to get caught in a game-fixing scandal.

I hate the NFL office, but this has not been thought out here. Take the tinfoil hat off.

Dont need tin foil. You watching the same games. These officials arent making bad calls just because the speed of the game passed them by.

Oh and this gem....

You can't expect conspiracy theorists, whether it's the moon landing, Newtown shooting or the NFL being fixed to use rational thought & critical thinking skills. People who tend to believe in these type of activities always believe they know something everyone else doesn't. It doesn't matter that billions of dollars would be at stake if they were caught, not to mention the fact hundreds if not thousands of people would have to be in on it & not spill the beans. Sure, Green Bay vs. New England would be a great win for the league & the networks, but the vast majority of fans aren't going to tune out if the big game is Pitt vs Atlanta, or even if it had been KC vs. Seattle. If these things were really rigged, the league would have stopped LA from drafting Goff & Aaron Rodgers would be a NYJ.

seriously. i don't know whats dumber...some of these ideas or the fact that they would watch and/or bet a game they thought was all scripted

i won't deny that I'm sure some refs influence some games for whatever reason/influence. but the idea that the entire league and each outcome of every game is scripted in August before the season starts???? sweet jeebus guys...

With all that the NFL has to lose if a "fix" was discovered, would they risk it? Why is it that conspiracy theories like this even see the light of day? Because they are more fun to believe than the mundane reality of actual events.
